I hope you are an electronics major. The ice maker uses the most complicated and heinous electrical theory available. What usuall goes wrong are those hairline contact arms they use. They have assembly tricks only surpassed by the inscrutible oriental puzzle boxes.
For about $150 you can get another.

type in your model number, then go to the section marked ice maker, it will show you the entire breakdown
of where every part belongs,

Yes you are correct,
Kneel down and look up from the bottom, you will see 2 small slots on the bottom, insert a putty knife or screwdriver in the slot and push up hard or twist slightly. If you gently pull on the bottom front while doing this it will help release. Once this is loose you can disconnect the wires. Be sure the frig is unplugged!
