Try resetting the CMOS. 3 wire pin with a 2 pin connector. Just unplug computer and take the connector from pin 1 and 2 to 2 and 3. Wait a few seconds and then place back to pin 1 and 2. Then power up into BIOS and see what it says.

Hi i bought WD 320 gb sata /8mb hard drive - the cable ribbon on my dell 4600 does not plug into it! do i need a different cable yes

Hi,
Generally speaking, we have two types of hard disk interface. IDE (the old one with ribbon cable) and SATA (with a 1cm strip like cable).
As your new hard disk is SATA, you need a SATA cable to connect it to you PC.
Below are a few images which would help you.

Can i replace the hard drive parellel type of inspiron 2200 into SATA type hard drive?

Hi,

Ofcourse you can replace the hard drive as Inspiron 2200 are usually supplied with SATA hard drives. But call Dell support team as they will only replace the hard drive if your computer has hardware warranty or else they will ask to purchase it.

2 Sata Hdd not supported

Hi rafiqbrush, let me go over a few things for the P5B MB.
There is a total of 5 serial ATA SATA drive ports on the board & one ATA IDE/PATA port.
The 4 main SATA ports are numbered, 1 - 4. Your primary SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 1. Your second SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 3. See page 2-26 in your manual.
All SATA drives are seen as master drives. Once the two SATA drives are connected (As per manual), boot to the bios main menu.
At the main bios menu make sure your bios shows both SATA drives. Than go to the bios title "Boot". Make sure your primary SATA drive 1 is listed in the boot order. Save & exit the bios. (SATA drive 1 must have windows installed on it).

Good luck rafiqbrush!

Sata & ide darddrives

Hi, All dual drive capable boards read the SATA first, just make sure both SATA & IDE are enabled in the BIOS, load your O/S as normal this will load on the 1st SATA and the others will be auto detected as drives D and E, the IDDE will be E by default. Regards mistyman
