I have a Brother MFC-3240C printer.Because I used generic ink brother says I can't fix it. The manual says DO NOT TOUCH THE ENCODER FILM AND DO NOT TOUCH THE PAPER FEED STAR WHEEL. I've bought ink and wasted half of it running it through the cleaning cycle. Is there anything I can do? I know this is for the Label Printer. Where can I find information on my printer? Thanks

Nothing happens, it is simply a clear strip with black stripes on it. The printer counts the black strips tp position the heads. If the strip is dirty, you can clean it with water and MILD soap, never use force or abrasives or you'll remove the lines and the printing will be out of alignment.

what model do you have. I doubt that the encoder has anything to do with head cleaning - it is used for lateral positioning of the cartridges. If the cartridges won't clean, you can usually use hot water on a non shredding cloth. Describe you exact problem

Mp 280 error p2?

This helped me last time i worked on this kind of problem....The Canon MP280 can display this error for a few reasons. It could be that one or both of the cartridges are not inserted into the printer correctly. One or both of the cartridges may have failed electrically, and need to be replaced.
There may be a paper jam, check the printer thoroughly for any small pieces still stuck inside.
The encoder film strip may have some dirty marks on it, and therefore needs cleaning. The encoder film strip in the clear strip of plastic that the printer carriage runs on. Be extremely careful when touching this, as it is very delicate.

Might be your printer inkjet technology one, just observe back side of carriage assm a film called encoder strip which is helping to carriage assm for positioning, might be mis positioned, become dirty(there is en number of stripes on encoder) or encoder reader sensor got dirty/not working results carriage moves left to right faster. check above said components..if found encoder faulty replace it..best of luck

Error code 5100

Error code 5100 indicates that Carriage Return (CR) error occurs. This error rise when carriage unit (the part that function as cartridge housing) does not move properly. Here are some possibilities of the problem:
  1. Carriage unit is faulty so that it cannot 'read' film timing **** strip (film encoder) properly
  2. Film encoder is dirty. Film encoder functions as a guide for carriage unit to move to the correct position it should be. Carriage unit 'read' the encoder by flashing a light from a LED. Dirty encoder sometimes make the light direction is deviated.
  3. Foreign material blocking carriage unit path. Please check inside the printer and remove it if any.

If carriage unit is faulty, you need bring the printer to the service center to get part replacement. For dirty film encoder, sometimes you can still clean it by using moistened cloth. I hope this will HELP you. Thanks.

EPSON DX3800 CONSTANT FLASHING SAYS REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECTS THERE ARN,T ANY TRIED UN/RE INSTALL

Your printer detects the head is not moving or being blocked.

Usually the problem is caused by the ink cartridge cover not fully closing, remaining paper, ink buildup on the metal rods on which the carrier slides or the encoder strip being dirty, damaged or missing.

the encoder strip is a clear plastic film with markings on it running trough the printhead carrier.
you can find a picture of such an encoder here taken from another model printer

What is Error Code 5100 please

I asked around and this error ..its also instruct you to turn off and on the printer ..it is a warning for an obstruction in the printing process ...most of the times the obstruction having mechanical origins..So look around for sliding parts and in general parts that suppose to move in a certain pattern and now are blocked or not well lubricated or something is blocking them ..

Canon i80 service error 5100

Hi guys,
Service error 5100 indicates that carriage return (CR) operation is not performed successfully. After the printer turned on, printer initialize some operation include CR operation. This error happens when carriage part (carriage unit) has problem when move right and left in initialization process.
This may be caused by:
  • Faulty carriage part so thatit cannot read film encoder properly. As a result, carriagepart move on uncontrolled.
  • Dirty film timing **** strip (Horizontal film encoder;available only ini series and above) so carriage part cannot read film encoder properly.
  • Another material (such as broken paper, etc) present in carriage path, blocking carriage part from moving.
To fix this problem you may try the following tips:
  • Check if any material present in carriage path; remove (clear) it
  • Check if film encoder is dirty; wipe slightly with moistened clothe.
  • At last, if carriage part is faulty you need to replace it.
Hope this will be helpful for you. Please don't forget to rate me.

Paper not loading, sericr eror message 5100

Dear kamal,

Error code 5100 also come with LED alarm flashes in Orange/Green 2 times. This error happens when carriage part (carriage unit) is faulty so that carriage part cannot read film encoder properly. As a result, carriage part move on uncontrolled. But,in some cases, dirty film timing **** strip (Horizontal film encoder;available only in i series and above) may cause the same symptom. Try to clean film encoder by wiping it with moistened clothe first.

Remedial action:
  • Replace carriage part
  • Clean/replace film timing **** strip
