The back panel gets blocked with ice after a week or two of operating. I hve been told the control boardis the problem. Replacing the control board is an expensive fix. I am looking for alternative less expensive fix formy refrigerator.

HOW DO I PUT A GE 31949 OR 3977 SIDE BY SIDE REFRIGERATOR INTO DEMO MODE?

Those numbers are not good model numbers. If you have the owners book it should tell you or go to GE.COM and read the manual off their site. It probably just a matter of pressing 2 control pads at the same time for a set number of seconds.

Ok, I had the same problem with this fridge. It is in "demo" mode. You have to push in and hold the Energy Save and Adjust Freezer buttons at the same time. Hold these in until the display starts flashing. You should hear the compressor kick on. I did this, and it was fixed and started cooling in a matter of seconds.

Floor model will not come out of demo mode.

If following dirctions from your owners manual does not do the trick. I would call for a tech to look at it. Every thing is control by dispenser board on a PSS26P
