Question about Swann Communications DVR4-Alert Video Recorder

Open Question

We are not getting any video from our Swann DVR4-Alert SW242-ALR recorder. I tried changing the video cable going to the TV monitor but still no video. What could be the problem ? Prior to complete lost of video signal, we experienced occasional lost of signal but turning off/on the unit worked for a while. Do you think it is inside wiring connection problem? Also, I found a refurbished Swann DVR4-Alert but slightly different model SW242-ALH. Is this compatible with my SW242-ALR wirings and camera ? Thanks, Ronald M.

SOURCE: Set HDD to master

Hi,

If the hard-drive (HDD) is not being detected, follow these steps to try and get it working…

Firstly, check that the power supply you are using is correct. If your DVR came in a kit with cameras; it should come with 2 or more power supplies (a/c adapters).
Sometimes customers will use the camera power supply to power the DVR, this will cause the HDD to not be detected.
Make sure the power supply connected to the DVR is correct (Try swapping the one used to power the cameras with the one used to power the DVR)

If the HDD is still not detected, you may need to open the case of the DVR to check that all the cables are correctly connected to the HDD.

Unplug the DVR from power, unscrew the necessary screws, and remove the casing of the DVR.

Unplug the 2 cables from the back of the HDD, and check that all the pins are intact and not broken or bent.

Check that the jumper settings on the hard-drive (located between the 2 cables) are set to MASTER.
Instructions for setting to MASTER are located on the top of the HDD on the information.

Now reconnect both cables firmly into the back of the HDD.

Place the case back on the DVR and plug the power cable back into the DVR.

The HDD should now be detected.

If it is still not detected, the HDD may be faulty, or may not be compatible with the DVR.

Have you switched cameras to AUTO (A) on settings line. Is the sensitivity for motion turned on and set correctly =
1= very sensitive 9 = less sensitive.

Setting areas are shaded = no recording area
unshaded = recording area

Hope this helps - good luck.

SOURCE: Set HDD to master

The internal power supply to the HDD is often suspect in these units. Check you have power on the internal plug to the HDD from the circuit board. if you do not Try fitting an external HDD power supply (£15) this cured my unit which had a similar fault.
Hope this helps - good luck.

SOURCE: regarding dvr4-net-plus, video output is

Hello,

The graphic settings is the cause of this. The display on the monitor has to be on either NTSC or PAL depending on your area/location.

Also after starting the DVR, you must ensure that the DVR's input video (NTSC/PAL) and your TV/Monitor (NTSC/PAL) are both set to the same standard.

If they are not set to the same standard, that is, if the DVR is set to PAL and TV/monitor is set to NTSC, this can cause the video out put to have constant horizontal line.........

So make sure both video output are the same....

I hope you understand the above.

Good luck.

Need software for Swann DVR4-1100 to work with Windows XP

Hi,
Please visit the below website, ad then select the model number and the product to download the driver(software) of your DVR. The product should be on the box or on the original invoice of the DVR.
You can download the product code SW244-DUM or SW242-DU2.
Please check on the invoice so download the right one, or else can try both of these one by one.anand_sachan_0.jpg

Getttin footage from dvr4 securanet

You can find the manual here:

The rather long full link is here, which is why I provided the tinyurl: ftp://ftp.swann.com.au/drivers/dvr_securanet/Securanet_English_Manual_080508.pdf

You probably just need to connect the USB port to your PC to transfer the video.  But you will need some DVD burning software as well as a DVD burner to be able to create a DVD of incidents.
You might also be able to save videos onto your PC through the network connection rather than using a USB cable, but I am not familiar enough with the product to know if it supports that.

No Files

You must use the unit to play back. You are supposed to connect directly to television or other type of monitor. I do beleive you might need a password or something to view recordings. I am not sure but i do beleive you cannot remove hard drive and connect to a pc to view files they have to be run through the units software. I hope this helps.
