P-57Cs shredder will not shred, but the sensor light lights up.
Power is good, since the sensor light turns on when you touch the entry point. However the motor wont turn the blades or even seemingly power them up.

There is a light sensor that is blocked by the paper that tells the machine to turn on when paper is loaded for shredding, it is most likely blocked with debris for a previous shredding.
Dear Michael,
Here is some generic information about shredders that may help you.
Most of the shredders have a micro switch that "senses" if the paper has been introduced to the shredding slot. These micro switches are activated by a little arm/leveler that touches the paper and activates de contact inside the shredder housing. Also, note that some shredders may have an optical sensor that may be "clogged" with paper dust.
If you shredder does not stop, the sensor may be stuck in a on position, or, in case it has optical sensor may be detecting dust or a little piece of paper may be blocking the optical sensor and keeping the motor running.
I hope this gives you some light in further investigating your problem.
Good luck!
RC
Unplug from mains electricity.
use a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the sensor
light(s) and heads
Give a quick spray to cutters with WD40 Replace - turn on - and run in reverse.
If all else fails, contact the maker
Blow out the sensors with some compressed air, Using a can of compressed air, look for the sensors that detect the paper and give them a blast or two, then try it, it may take a couple of tries. This may also be a good time to lubricate the cutting heads, if it is a good machine with metal heads a light oil applied to paper then run through the shredder will pass the oil onto the heads. A shredder oil or light oil like 3 in 1, these usually have a narrow nozzle to limit the oil flow, draw lines, do a picture or spell your name on the paper with oil and shred it. You have just serviced your shredder. If it is a less expensive shredder with plastic heads, shredding a couple if sheets of waxed paper will pass the wax onto the cutting heads reducing friction.
suspect paper jam try using reverse button the dislodge paper. suspect paper feed sensor is blocked or damaged there is a light beem in front of the teeth that starts the shredder if this defective the shredder will not start. suspect a panel or bin is not correctly seated causing the shredder to not start.
Sorry don't mean to point out something obvious, but are you being shown any indication lights that the waste basket is not seated correctly in the bin or the head? If not, then you may want to try and check these connections anyway. Lights can burn out.
Their are sensors on top and bottom of cutter asm. Good chance one or more are dirty, blocked with paper shreds or just bad. Clean with compressed air and lightly moistened cotton swab.
Can be it's never turned on from the power
Depends on brand, but check the green light is showing on
Check the lid is porperly sitting
Check the bun has enough space to take more shred.
The top sensors may be bad or even the main board that they are connected to is bad. Try cleaning them with a lightly moistened swab or compressed air. Fellowes will sell you the parts.
