You need to remove all the screws from the back also, then remove the cover to the rear on the bottom and remove the wireless card (make note as to connection colours) and there is 2 (I think) screws under there, then one also under the battery, then the whole top opens up.

Make sure you have removed all screws from the bottom case, including the four under the rubber feet at the rear.

This was the most awful laptop I have ever worked on!

You have to take the laptop apart by removing all the screws from the base of the laptop, turn it over open the screen, the whole of the keyboard top including the touch pad slides forward, then take off the cpu fan, and put in your upgrade ram, assembly reverse of disassembly, good luck

Turn it over and start unscrewing screws. But you'll also have to remove the lcd screen, keyboard, palmrest and motherboard to actually get the whole back off.

How do I remove the back of my Gateway all in one ZX4931-31e to upgrade the RAM and for basic Maintenance, cleaning?

Remove the two rubber feet from the bottom, remove the back cover plate, unscrew the single silver screw, take a flat head screwdriver (Thin) and push down on the silver face plate from the backside of the computer where you removed the two rubber feet.
Shouldn't have to push too hard. This will release the case plastic.
It is the silver painted plastic that unsnaps from the main body.

How can I increase RAM in my compaq nc8230?

To increase the physical RAM then you need to consult the manufacturer of the computer. If you want to increase the virtual memory of the computer then you can very well do that. To do that you need to tell us which operating system are you using?

Where is the ram?

Removing the keyboard exposes the two memory slots, which are covered by a plastic sheet.

You can download the owners manual here which gives directions to remove and replace your ram. (Starts at page 70) Click here:

Memory upgrade

The memory should be DDR II Ram. To find how much ram you have simply click on Start then right click on "My Computer" and click properties. Chances are you have 512 ram. It will tell you in the lower right hand side along with your processer and windows version. Once you have found out how much ram you have, turn off your computer flip it upside down and pull out the battery. Then you should see a cover with one or two screws in it that measures about 3 inch by 4 inch. Remove the screws and take the cover off. This is where your memory goes. If there is 512 memory in your computer you will either have 1 512 memory stick or 2 256 sitcks. Remember that any time you upgrade memory it is best to take out the old memory and replace with either one stick of higher ram or two of equal ram. Never mis a 512 and a 256 or 512 and 1gig ect. Take the ram stick/sticks out and bring them down to the store with you just so as to get the correct memory. Also, remember when you replace the memory, if you are just upgrading to one 1gig stick to put it in the A DIMM slot. This is the primary ram slot.

My First RAM Upgrade-Any Tips

Make sure you remove the battery before removing or inserting the ram :)

No worries about it not being dual channel as most laptop arent.

DDr (double data rate) ram runs at 200MHz but is actually 400 one the double data rate is applied so they are one and the same :)

I hope its a sodimm stick of ram that you bought? They are about 3i inches long rather than 6 like desktop ram?

Need that number before i can find the correct manual for your machine.

In any case, the ram should be accessible via a small panel on the bottom.
