Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player

Ipod stopped working

After attaching Ipod to notebook it asked if I would like to update my software and I replied yes and then it said Ipod will disconnect for a few minutes and reconnect in itunes. It disconnected but never came back and shut down and that was that.

Try a reset

To reset your iPod:

  • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

The third generation of iPods includes iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch and iPod Nano. Installing the latest software for each of these models involves the same process and requires the latest version of iTunes to perform. The 3rd generation iPod Touch uses the same iOS 4 operating system that the iPhone uses. You can download the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website for free. How to update iPod for Windows using Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000

Download and install the latest version of iTunes.


When you have the latest version, use the iTunes menus to check for updates.

On Windows choose Help > Check for Updates.


Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod and open iTunes if it is not already open.


If you want to update your iPod on a PC, it must be formatted for a PC.

If it is not, you will see a message stating that your iPod needs to be reformatted. I


f you receive this message, refer to Restoring iPod to factory settings before proceeding.

If you are unsure of your iPod's format, refer to iPod: How to determine your iPod's disk format.

If iTunes detects that a newer version of iPod software is available for your model, you will be prompted to download and install the new version.


If you have already downloaded the newest version of the software, you may be prompted to install it.


Depending on the iPod model and whether you use USB or Firewire to connect to your iPod, you may be asked to leave your iPod attached to the computer for the update to complete, or you may be asked to connect the iPod to the power adapter.


Note: not all iPod models ship with a power adapter. Be sure to follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update.


During the update process, you will notice that an Apple logo and progress bar appear on the iPod display.


Note: this may be difficult to see since the iPod's backlight will be turned off.

In some rare instances, it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
  1. iTunes
  2. QuickTime
  3. Apple Software Update
  4. Apple Mobile Device Support
  5. Bonjour
  6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: You may see various alert messages if you uninstall these applications in a different order or only uninstall certain components.
For detailed steps on removing and reinstalling iTunes and related components on Windows XP, refer to the following steps:
Removing iTunes Note: iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes.
  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs, then click Remove.

Removing Bonjour

  3. Select Bonjour from the list of currently installed programs then click Uninstall.
  4. When asked if you would like to remove Bonjour click Yes.

Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
  3. Open the Program Files folder.
  4. Right-click the iTunes folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Note: This folder may have already been deleted if iTunes was successfully removed.
  5. Right-click the iPod folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
  6. Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.

  3. Click the Processes tab.
  4. Locate "iPodService.exe" in the list.

Sometimes the acer orbicam software will stop working if you have pictures saved in the "my pictures" folder.

Yes this is very weird, but I have seen it happen.

Start by syncing your iPod with your computer. When you do this, the iPod management screen will appear. Midway down that screen there's a button that reads "Restore." Click the restore button. This begins the process of restoring the iPod to its factory settings. After you click the restore button, iTunes will ask you to confirm that you really want to do this. If your iPod content is backed up, go ahead. The iPod restore process includes iTunes downloading and installing iPod software and bug fixes. You will see a window that looks like this. Follow the onscreen instructions. **On a Mac, you will be asked to enter your computer?s password. On Windows, the installation will just proceed. As iTunes restores the iPod, you will see a progress bar. After the restoration process has completed, iTunes will pop up a window letting you know that it?s done. The itunes doesn't recognize my ipod classic


you restored your ipod correct? (just the music is erased) not format ? (ipod is zapped)....ok..lets play with the restore part...plug up ipod to pc....do not open itunes (close it, x it out) ...go to my computer you should see a new drive on it (ipod)....double click ipod and copy the software (from ipod) it should be 4 folders and hidden files too...paste it to a temp folder on the pc....now right click ipod drive and format it (yes this will erase everything on it)...once format is completed reinstall the software from the temp folder back to ipod......now this is finish....update itunes to the newest version (even if u have it already overwrite it)....you now have a brand new ipod...........

in the beginning i ask if you restored or formatted (if you had formatted, you would not find nor see any software)......you would be better off asking a friend/family if they have the same ipod can you copy just the software (you would copy their software to a temp file, then on to yours same as above) .........i hope this works out for u.....feel free to rate the help

Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

follow Apple's 5 R's:
These are for Nano, but they apply to all iPods:
Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If
one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.

1. Reset the ipod using the utility
2. Run itunes application to create profile : after you have reset the Ipod just start itunes and it will ask you to provide a profile name, just provide any name and select okay.

I had the same issue, got it sorted using the windows utility.

Should work for u as well.
