Question about Televison & Video

Whilst trying to copy from HDD to DVD on my Pan dmrex85eb got error 88 message saying unable to complete copying because of DVD problem. As a result I cannot now copy or playback any DVD. Keep getting message saying 'insert valid disc etc'. When starting up the machine is obvioulsy searching for a DVD (which is not there). Even when machine is off (i.e.time of day only) the DVD symbol is still showing in the display window. Have tried unplugging from the mains for 30 mins and still the same problem. The machine is abut 12 months old. Can anyone assist? Thanks Stephen

Alright so you already tried unplugging it and no reset.

What you should try next is finding a small reset button on the device, most likely on the front and press it.

If you can't find it or it doesn't have one, then you should next try changing your region on the device which should be an option in your menu.

Check your manual for further info on this.

Let me know if none of the above works and I would be happy to help until this is fixed.

thanks

Alright so you've got problem reading the discs?

Another thing is this your model no. Pan dmrex85eb ?If this one is right then i'll look for the manual

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

First try a hard reset by unpluging all the cords from the back for 30min and then plug it back in.IF this doesn't help then do the following:

Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable. You can also restoe the settings to factory defaults by inserting a toothpick or a small paper click in thehole in the front..

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.

If the problem does not get solved then you have to get it repaired.

    Goodluck,

What type of harddrive are you trying to copy to?

Is it the same hdd that you have your operating system installed in? Is it an external hdd? At the risk of asking an obvious question, are you sure you have enough free space in the hdd to copy what you want to copy?

If you're copying into another drive make sure it is formatted NTFS (right click on drive, format, check NTFS instead of FAT or FAT32). This is for a Windows environment. DO NOT DO THIS IF THIS IS THE SAME HDD THAT YOU HAVE WINDOWS INSTALLED IT. If it is the same hdd as your operating system, then the partition is already NTFS unless you're on Windows 98 or something.

Again, a little more info is needed. Hope this helped...

Windows unable to complete format.

How did you format the computer, inside windows or outside?
Try this change the boot sequence from the BIOS instead of booting first to HD make your optical drive as first boot. After changing the boos sequence insert the windows vista disk to the drive then restart the computer. When it boots it will ask you to press any key to boot to CD/DVD. Keep tapping on space bar. If you notice it will say windows copying files. When copying files completed we isolated the problem dvd rom is fine and the vista installer is fine as well.
If the problem only started in or during attempting to format you HDD might causes the problem.

Unable to copy dvd's

Most dell machines do no come with dvd rewriting as standard. They only come with cd rewriting capability. Unless you specifically requested it as an add on to the spec it probably just has the ability to pay dvd's.

Most internet cafe's will have a machine with a dvd rewriter if you really need to copy a dvd

Errors burning to 1x to 16x DVD-R

I have had much luck recording on off brand 16X discs as follows:

1) Record a "dummy" program on the hard drive, need only about 15 or 20 seconds.

2) Put a blank disk in drive, and COPY that dummy program to disk. Do not finalize.

3) After a minute or so, window will come up and say "Cannot
complete copy."

4) Now while above window on screen, click HOME MENU, COPY, New program list, Select your movie/program to copy, go ahead and finalize, and START.

5) Think you'll find this is successful, however there might be some brands of blank disks that won't work.

6)Let me know if it works for ya. JGIDUSKO@CFL.RR.COM

Dvd recorder wont finalize etc

The DVD drive works harder when trying to record the info faster. As the unit ages, tracking is less precise. DVD-R copies occur at 4-16X real time. Try DVD-RW disks which copy slower (now that the price has dropped substantially), and you may find that your aging drive can still copy programs from the HD to the DVD.
