Yes, the + and - adjusts the depth of the staple. You should check the setting periodically as it has a tendency to move as you handle the stapler.
Also, holding the nose of the staple flush and steady on the surface helps to drive them to the proper depth.
Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up, keeps me working... Thanks,

Open the chamber and drop the staples upright in to the chamber do not try to load the staples by placing them on the strip that pulls out as you do with most staple guns.

SOURCE: setting staples too deep
The depth is set by the bumper and the bumper spacer. Are you sure these were put back in? the air pressure only makes a small difference on the depth...

Look at the above picture of the stapler and follow the bottom of it from the left side over to the right side. Right there on the end of it is a small piece of metal that looks bent down, bull this out and set your row of staples on top of the sled you pulled out and then slide it back it. it is ready to staple something.

very simple to fix it 1 pull the trigger all the way out 2 there is a little piece of metal, pull it all the way out (detach the piece out from the gun) an connect one side of the spring 3 push the piece back on the gun. 4 on the other side of the spring tide a little fishing line 5 pass the fishing line over a small rounded piece and pull it hard 6 finally connect the side of the spring onto a little hock on the base of the trigger
