I bought our playstation 3 in December of 09 and it just started messing up. It doesn't acknowledge that there is a disk in the system. It doesn't even display and error message.

If the disk is pre owned it may be your problem scratches are not so much a problem sometimes as smudges. clean it with a disk cleaner or an Alcohol prep pad than dry with a very soft lens cloth. only go in circles with both. the oil from Fritos will really stop a disk from working right

You need the DVD DR. cleaning disk that is made for blu-ray players...I've used my disk over 20 times now to fix drive errors in ps3 systems!

try cleaning the game disk (carefully try to use a microfiber cloth), scratches and finger prints can hinder game play.

Delete the installed game data manually and reinstall, this usually solves

try looking for updates and patches for the game, else, reinstall all your fifa 09 files.

if this doesn't work, verify it there are any problems with your disk (dust, for example),

is the problem continues, restore your ps3 system . (or first re-update the system by downloading the latest update in Playstation Site)

If all games are like this then you might have a faulty system if it's only a few or one then it might be the disk. If it's not the disk then I don't know

your disk reader will be falty

Yes, this is optical lens assembly failure. the entire drive will need do be replaced in this case. the load motor has failed.(could have possible laser failure as well)

contact Sony for this repair

THERE COULD BE A THERMAL ISSUE WITH UR SYSTEM IF IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEN GO AND DUMP THE MACHINE TO THE SERVICE CENTRE AND U WILL GET A NEW CONSOLE
