It is probably misreading the disk. That is what ours did. We would have to take it out and put it back in several times to get it to work. You can take it to be repaired and get a DVD drive in it, but it would probably be cheaper to get a new one, since they're only about $25 dollars these days. (Note: the cheapest DVD players seem to work best for us)
Try cleaning the DVD if there is scratches use a scrstch removal cleaning system or you can take it to a video store and most likly they will clean it for free for ya. if the DVD is free of scratches/dirt clean the player with a DVD cleaning kit.
I had the SAME problem...sort of. American Gangster UR got to a real cliff hanger of a place, and then would go no farther. When I tried to push a forward arrow, it started rewinding. When I put another DVD in my player to see if it was the DVD or my player, it ruined THAT DVD too. Now I get the message "DISC ERROR," no matter what I play, so I have two broken DVDs and one broken DVD players! HELP!
1 You need to Finalize the disc to play of a DVD player
check that out with your DVD burn program.
2 Check the DVD players capability with certain discs, not all payers will run 'burned disks' sometimes even the brand of disk matters or whether it is + or- type
There are may variables with the DVD firmware.
Finalize first the the first step.
