Try something else: connect the PS3 (turned off) to the tv using the Yellow, Red and White cable and press the power button for approx. 5 seconds, this way the console will send a standard 480i signal that every tv can use. Then find out what is the maximum resolution on your tv and set the PS3 to it. Do NOT use HDMI or you will end up in the exact same situation as now , the image quality will be pretty much the same if you have decent quality RCA cables.
