Printer cartridges will not come center to change

I tried to move the print cartridges but it is all the way over on the left and I cannot budge it.

  • lindaredd Sep 03, 2010

Thanks for your help. No matter what I do the message is that the black ink cartridge needs replacing. I have replaced it and snapped it in good, but keep getting the message. It still will not come the center on it's own, but when I started it up, I was able to pop out the ink cartridge and snap it back in. I have not had this printer six months. I cannot afford to buy another one so I am hoping this one can be fixed easily. Thanks.

Follow these steps to Remove Ink Cartridges From a Printer
•1
Turn on the printer. Open the main lid or hatch. Printers come in many shapes and sizes. Look for the main compartment where you think the ink cartridges might be. If you need help, consult the manufacturer's webpage (See resources for popular printer manufacturers.)
•2
Press the lever to open the cartridge housing. Many but not all cartridges are encased in a cartridge housing.
•3
Pull on the cartridge slowly, in an up-and/or-down and outward way. It shouldn't take much effort. If there is a problem removing the cartridge, consult the manufacturer. Do not try to pry or force it out, as this might damage your printer.
•4
Repeat step 3 for every cartridge you need to remove. Some printers have one black and multiple color ink cartridges, while some have one black and one multi-color cartridge.
•5
Shut the hatch and or lid, and turn off the printer.

Hi,

I have run across a few stubborn printers that do this. Sometimes it doesn't recognize the button push etc. The easiest way to do this is to unplug the printer and manually move the print head to the middle and then replace the cartridges. It will be stiff but shouldn't take too much force to move it. When you turn plug it in after changing the carts then it will zero itself again and work normally.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

If the cartridge is still stuck, this could be a bad news. Unfortunately that means either the encoder strip or the rod needs to be replaced. I would call before having it done as it can sometimes be expensive.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Ink holder will not stop in middle to change ink

Hi, normally when changing ink cartridge, once you open the cover the printer head move from home to the center of the printer and halted,if in case this not happen something wrong with the sensor, if the printer move from home to center just pull off the power cord to stop the printer at the middle or nearly at the middle just to remove the cartridge and replace it. Upon replacing the ink cartridge, just power on the printer and it will return home to its position.

I don't know how to get the cartridge moved to the center so I can change it

Normally, the Cartridge ( or Carriage ) should come in center when you open the front access door.

If this does not happen, turn off the printer, Open the front access door and move the carriage manually to center to remove the cartridges, later power on the unit and you should be able to find the cartridges move to center for replacement.

How to get to cartridge to change it I can't figure how to lift top to get cartridge

Perhaps this User Guide(for Lexmark X2450, X2470 and X2480) link to the Lexmark website will help. Just clink on this link: http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/2400/ug_en.pdf. Scroll to Maintaining the Printer, Page 42, for changing/installing cartridges. In some cases, even when the printer is on and you lifted the scanner unit cover, somehow the cartridge carrier won't go to the center for loading position. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the scanner unit open, hold the solid white strip in the middle inside the printer. Other end of it is connected to the cartridge carrier. Slowly drag the carrier to the center for loading position. Change the cartridges. Close the cover. Plug printer back to power source. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

How does one change an ink cartridge? On my computer the cartridge container doesn't come to and stay at center position?

You didn't specify which type of printer you have. Is there another door that opens and gives access to the cartridges? If not, let us know what kind of printer you have. Good luck!

Changing print cartridges

Open gthe printer cover; this should allow access to the cartridges, which ought to be centered inside. Each cartridge has a lever you press, which will let you remove your old cartridge(s). With new cartridge, remove the protective tape covering the contacts. Then simply insert the new cartridge, restart your printer and all should be OK.

1. On your PC, go to Start, Programs (Windows XP: All Programs), Lexmark series.
2. Select the Solution Center.
3. When the Solution Center appears, click on the Maintenance button.
4. Select the option to Install a new print cartridge. The carrier should slide over at this point and allow you to insert and/or remove cartridges.
5. Make sure the correct cartridges are installed inside the printer first, then inform the software which cartridges have been installed. Note: This applies also to installation of a single cartridge.
6. Print the Print Alignment page to ensure the print quality is satisfactory.
7. Close the Solution Center.
