Check fuel filter type, and blockages, check oil for the same. Then check oil psi with an external gauge, replace sensor

Possible dsmsge from driving weeks with high oil pressure? btw 2004 GMC Yukon XL Denali

No damage will occur. Have you checked the oil pressure with a manual test gage? If not do that and please understand GM oil pressure gages are prone to reading high pressure when the sender is defective.

High oil pressure

First thing is find out if the oi pressure is really high. Remove the oil pressure sending unit and hook up a oil pressure test gauge kit, if the pressure is within normal then replace the sending unit first. (requires a special socket)

Oil pressure is still reading high even though I just changed the filter and oil.

A high oil pressure reading is a good thing, low oil pressure is something to worry about. Normally with a cold start, your oil pressure will remain high until the engine has reached operating temperature, then drop a bit, but again, high oil pressure readings are a good sign of a healthy engine. One other factor to consider is the viscosity of your oil, if your engine uses 5w30 and you switch it to a higher viscosity such as 10w40, you may also see higher oil pressure readings, so be sure you are using the correct oil for your vehicle. I hope this has helped you! :)

Oil pressure is high should I do an oil change or will that help at all?

Oil pressure is the amount of hydraulic force used to move the oil through the engine parts. High pressure can be caused by
  1. wrong type of oil, 50 weight in an engine thatshould have 5W-30,
  2. plugged part of the oil system,
  3. sludge in oil passages or very dirty oil filter,
  4. internal engine part(s) being out of tolerance,
  5. clearances too tight on bearings or oil pump, or
  6. faulty sending unit or
  7. Gauge just showing high pressure.
So the first way to check is by just changing the oil, go ahead and do it. It might fix the problem.

Oil pressure gauge reads 80 yesterday it ran normal

The higher the oil pressure the better it is, if you had a recent oil change the oil pressure should be high. there is no problem with having high oil pressure.

2004 GMC Sierra High Oil Pressure

if it is electrical oil pressure sensor I would start there. The best way to see if you have a major problem is to use a mechanical oil pressure tester. Take off the oil pressure sensor and put the mechanical tester on. The tester should come with a Gage. If it comes within your trucks oil pressure range than all is fine and replace the sending unit and see if that don't help your problem. If the tester runs high then the oil pump is bad or your cam-bearings could be the problem. But with cam-bearings you would usually get a low reading.

WHERE IS THE IPR LOCATED ON THE ENGINE ?

The "IPR" is and Injector Pressure Regulator. It is a Solenoid used to control the oil pressure created by the High Pressure Oil Pump. The IPR is capable of regulating oil pressure from 0 to 5000 psi. On an 05 6.0l the IPR is located in rear, top, center of the engine in the High pressure oil pump. It can be identified by its gold color. It sticks out of the side of the pump pointing toward the driver side of the truck. It has a 2 wire plug that is held on by a metal clip. usually the ipr and plug are protected in a heat shield so you may not be able to see it right away. Some people mistake and IPR for and ICP. The ICP is a sensor that tells the PCM what the High oil pressure is. ICP stands for Injector Control Pressure. This sensor is located in the passenger side valve cover on and 04, 05 6.0l and in the top of the High pressure oil pump on an 03 6.0l.

The sensor can show high pressure when that is not the case, they fail high not low, take the sender out and plug in a mechanical guage to verify this, that is the only way to be 100% sure.
