I had to do the same with my Casablanca fan. Biggest problem was getting the light kit holder off the bottom of the fan before I could remove the remnants of the flywheel. Had to purchase a special tool to pull the light kit holder off. If this sounds like what you are faced with let me know and I will be happy to give you additional details.

Ceiling fan off track

Might have broken the flywheel if this fan has one. The flywheel is the is the round rubber wheel that the blades attach to. If I knew the model of the fan I would know if it has a flywheel.

When the fan is on it makes a noise as if it is rubbing somewhere. The light is fine and the motor seems fine. Just some kind of friction that we are afraid to use it.

Could be a simple alignment issue or the flywheel holding the fan blades to the fan could be going bad, i.e. dried out and crumbling.
The only way to check for sure is to get up to the blades and look to see the condition of the flywheel, a hard black rubber part and perhaps check the alignment of the fan itself.

There is a humming noise coming from fan no matter what speed it is on. I have run the fan for hours and still humming

The key to a quiet fan is to isolate the motor vibration from all other parts. This occurs, in the majority of fans, in three places: between the motor and the blade brackets, between the blade brackets and the blades, and between the downrod/motor flange and the mounting bracket. Some fans also have vibration-isolating material between the mounting bracket and the ceiling. If your fan makes a noticable humming noise, inspect it for the above mentioned types of vibration-isolating material. With the exception of the rubber flywheel, if your fan is lacking any of the above, they are easy to add and should solve the majority of humming problems. You can always add additional material as rubber washers and spacers are readily available.

You will need to replace an aluminum "key" in the flywheel. Whenever you hit something, the key is designed to shear so you don't break something major.

You can probably find outdoor blades at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

There are ways to reduce the warping of indoor blades, but it's too much for most people. I'd suggest replacing them.

You could also surf the net for Hampton Bay stuff -- might be able to find them there, too.
