It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.
Yes you guess right blu-ray has failed. You need to swap the laser out. If I were you I would return to pawnshop and let them know you want either all your money back or at least a partial refund to cover repair costs.
You could repair yourself ($50) or find a local tech / company to fix ($100) or have Sony replace (150+)
Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can help :)
call customer support your lazer is not dead yet but that is a sign of failing freezing with blu ray means that it can no longer read the disk and the system has locked up you might want to self fix it by replacing it your self for 80 bucks instead of sending to sony for $150 but they renew a 1 year warrenty if you send it to them
The blu-ray laser is a 3 part laser (cd dvd and blu-ray) the blu-ray portion has failed. The only way to fix it is to swap the laser out with a working one.
It's not hard to do, there are 1000 tutorials on youtube.
A disc read error means you will need a new Blu-ray drive. A blu-ray drive can fail to read Blu-ray but play DVD or CD OK. (Or any combination) A new blu-ray drive requires calibration. Contact Sony for the service center you can send it to. www.sony.com
this could be several issues.
1:) try putting in A DVD Or CD.
2:) Check that the game your trying to read, is free from Dirt/Dust/Scratches.
If the console reads a CD/DVD ( movie et,c ) theres a chance that the Blu-Ray laser unit has failed ( Burnt-Out Or Other )
Check if the Console guide suggests the use of a laser Head Cleaning Disk ( Or Other ) ** Possible debris on laser read head**
If it reads normal CD/DVDs. Then I,d suspect the blu-ray laser is at fault. This will need to be replaced/repaired or calibrated.
the blue ray drive can read many disk types and has to be programed to read them this requires 12 disk's to do...as dose the console so this problem could be the OB "lazer" has worn out or the console needs to be reprogamed
