Question about HP Deskjet 6980 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

Message says top is open when it is securely closed

Is there some way to override this or adjust the lid somehow so the printer recognizes the closed lid?

I have replaced the color cartridge and now the printer does not recognize color. Can you please help me on this?

Hello

Turn on the printer and check the LCD screen for messages. If your printer isn't recognizing what you know to be a new cartridge, the "Low Ink" warning will still be on the screen. Press the green "OK" button for now--if you want the message to reset later, just open and close the lid.

Try printing a test page. Sometimes the ink cartridge simply has a faulty chip and the printer cannot recognize the ink levels.

Open the lid via the handle under the copying tray and remove the ink cartridge in question. Check the bottom for the plastic tab. This tab must be removed or the printer cannot recognize the cartridge. Sometimes when the tab is pulled off, a small strip remains, and this can interfere with printing. Hold it in good lighting and use your fingernails or a knife to gently pry off any remaining bits of the plastic tab. Replace the cartridge, close the lid, and print a test page.

Call the store or website customer service where you bought the ink if the above steps do not work Tell them what you tried, the exact error message your printer is giving you, and when you bought the ink. If it's within 30 days of purchase, they probably have a return or exchange program.

U130 ink message on pixma mp620

Very simple solution: When the pixma mp620 screen shows error U130, Hold down the stop (red triangle) key for about 7 - 10 seconds. This overrides/turns off the ink monitoring function. The printer will begin "thinking" for a bit and then start printing. Note: you may have to do this seperately for each color. You'll also notice that when the lid is open and the cartridges are in position for changing, the cartridges that used to be "out" are no longer flashing red, nor a stead red. They are dark.

Problem getting J5780 to recognize that cartrige door is shut

Is this a BRAND NEW printer? Just setting it up, just took out of the box?

If so double-check that you have removed all the packing/shipping tape pieces, plasic guards, retaining pieces .. that is what is sounds like

Deskjet 5650 broken door latch

I have seen this problem with this series of printer. (all the ones shaped like this ie. 5150) The lid will not close all the way on the right side (this is where the lid triggers the door open/close sensor flag). Somehow the sensor flag gets out of alignment over time where the top can't close properly to trigger it. The simplest solution is take something and wedge it where the tab from the lid would come down and make contact with this sensor flag. Print with the lid open or set the lid down on whatever you use to trigger the sensor flag. Hint: when testing and problem solving in house, I use a small piece of paper folded up several times to trigger door open/closed sensors that way I can watch the printing process and diagnose problems.

When closing the cover very slowly do you feel at the very bottom before it "closes" a slight resistance? You should have to push it down to finish the movement. Simply let the lid rest on your fingers and lower it into place, if there's no resistance just at dead bottom then the physical tab attached to the pegs of the cover may have broken off. The swich to "close lid" is probably internal by the lid joint.

Check to make sure the print carriage isn't snagged either. any little piece of anything can cause problems.
Good luck.

My printer doesn't recognize that I've closed the scanner lid

there is a switch on the lid, look for a protruding piece of plastic which corresponds to a hole in the machine if you put a flat screw driver ( or a business card ) in the hole it should push on a micro switch, if the message goes away when you do that then the switch needs to be adjusted, remove covers and adjust lever.

Getting a "close document feeder message" on my HP office jet 7300

open feeder and check the back where the hinges are you will see a plunger or switch there. manually push on it and see if it changes, if it says close when it is pushed, needs to be adjusted or changed.
