If you don't have at least some load on these, they surge a bit as the govenor "hunts". Put at least a few hundred Watts of load on it and see if it stabilizes.

1991 GMC C1500, 5.7 liter 350. Why is my A/C and heat are causing my engine to surge?.

If the operation of your A/C and heat is causing your engine to surge in your 1991 GMC C1500 with a 5.7-liter 350 engine, there could be a few possible causes for this issue:
  1. Engine Load: The A/C and heat systems place an additional load on the engine, especially when the compressor engages. This extra load can affect the engine's idle and cause surging. It's possible that the engine is not able to handle the increased load, leading to fluctuations in RPM.
  2. Idle Control System: The idle control system, including the idle air control valve (IAC), may be malfunctioning or not compensating properly for the increased load when the A/C or heat is turned on. This can result in unstable idle and engine surging. The IAC valve may need cleaning or replacement.
  3. Electrical Issues: Faulty electrical connections, such as loose or corroded wires or connectors, can cause intermittent power supply to the A/C and heat systems. In turn, this can lead to fluctuations in engine performance, including surging.
  4. Vacuum Leaks: Check for any vacuum leaks in the A/C and heat system components, as well as the engine's intake manifold and vacuum lines. Vacuum leaks can disrupt the engine's air-to-fuel ratio, leading to unstable idle and surging.
  5. A/C Compressor Issues: The A/C compressor itself may be malfunctioning, causing excessive drag on the engine. This can result in surging when the A/C is engaged. A faulty clutch, compressor bearing, or internal component may be the cause.
  6. Engine Performance Issues: Other underlying engine performance problems, such as ignition system issues, fuel delivery problems, or worn-out engine components, can contribute to surging when the A/C or heat is in use.
To diagnose and resolve the issue, it is recommended to consult a qualified mechanic or an automotive technician who can perform a thorough inspection of your vehicle. They will be able to assess the specific conditions and components involved, perform necessary tests, and identify the root cause of the surging problem.

2001 Ford Focus. It is running rough and power surges.

Clean Throttle Body (both sides, not just what you can see) and MAF (mass air flow sensor) [spray and shake to dry].

Honda SUA 2300 generator surges at idle.

It probably has bad fuel that is a few years old. Check out the videos in the link.

What causes a generator to surge at idle?
Surging caused by fuel problems usually happens for one of three reasons: incorrect fuel, low fuel levels, or poor fuel quality. Most generators have specific fuel requirements and using any type of fuel outside of those parameters can cause operational issues, including surges.

Have an '04 Seville. N.S. engine. Surging at idle. If I disconnect the IAC it runs almost right. Put in new IAC and still surges.

Hello. It seems your Cadillac is getting too much air into its engine; causing it to 'surge'. This could be due to a malfunctioning/defective vacuum brake booster. If your Cadillac's catalytic converter is 'clogging'; this will cause the engine to 'surge' too. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

What is main purpose for a surge arrester?

A surge arrester is a device that an appliance plugs into. The main job it has to perform is stopping any large voltage spikes from entering the device that it protects. For example your computer is plugged into a surge protector. A thunderstorm comes along and hits close enough to the power line to cause the normal power to jump 100 percent. The surge arrestor will dump that voltage and protect the computer if it a good brand and the voltage is high enough to be seen and caught. You will need to replace the surge arrestor if it does its job one time.

Came home from work to find that my circut breaker was tripped for my furnace...what and why caused this...i flipped the breaker back on and smelled like it fried the control board....why did it do this

Hi,
The most likely cause was a power surge. The surge from the power line into your house wil fry the board and trip the breaker at the same time. Then when you turn the breaker back on it will continue to fry the board....
Whole house surge protection can help to stop some of the surges, but may not toally protect you from them. Some are too large to be completely stopped with normal surge protection devices.
There are many deivices out that will provide surge protection and some like these that will provide surge protection and can help to save you money.

Model ATF6000751. Replaced speed control board a month ago when final spin failed. Worked fine until yesterday. Could something else be causing the board to go bad?

Power Surges. In my area we suspect that 70 to 80% of the repairs here are caused by power surges. They happen all the time, andyou do not have to lose power to have one. They can happen when you have lightning, windstorms or beutiful sunny days. You have to have a 2000 joule surge protector or higher on your washer, refer, microwave oven, and gas stove or dryer if you have them. For your washer , gas dryer, and refer you have to have a rectangular box wall mount surge protector. You cannot have a power strip surge protector on a cord as moisture can get into it and cause electrical fires. I have seen three major fires caused by power strips behind washers. Lowes and Best Buy sell wall mounted box surge protectors with a 2150 joule rating that have 3 plugs on each side that rotate from front to the side so that you can plug your refrigerator into the side and not have the refer sit out from the wall any more. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

Does my samsung tv keeping turning itself off because of not having plugged it into a surge protector or is it more a fault with my tv

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a surge.....in future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps, ben
