There's no way back from there, that would be permanent damage. (Just make sure that the cable is fully plugged in as well).
Repair is possible by swapping the drivers (and carefully soldering them in) but to be honest, it probably isn't worth it. If it's within warranty, I'd try sending it back under warranty. Otherwise, start shopping around.

Sound on pc cracklin

Start by plugging in the green audio jack into an mp3 player or even smartphone and test the speakers. If they still crackle then I would say replace the speakers. If they don't crackle then try going to Dell's website, search your model and update your audio driver.

The sound on my Dell W4200 is crackling some times even when the sound is on mute. Sometimes the sound is fine, other times no sound and other times the crackling noise. Any idea what problem may be?

Hi There,
Crackling sound is often an indication of bad connections to the speakers. Are you listening with the built-in speakers or through an external amplifier?
If you are listening through an external amplifier or speakers, check all of the connections to make sure the cables are properly inserted, and wiggle the cables from each end and the middle to see if that reproduces the symptoms. Sometimes a cable can become damaged from being squashed or bent, and it may be as simple as replacing the faulty cable with a new one.
If you are listening with the built-in speakers the situation might be harder to identify and correct. Sometimes it is as simple as nearby wireless devices or radio towers causing interference with the speaker. You can try repositioning wireless devices such as computer routers, cordless landline phones or radios to see if that helps.
However, over time the solder used to connect the internal components can wear and sometimes break the connection. For this type of situation repair is usually the only option. If the warranty of your TV has expired you may have to take it to a local TV service center. Typically a loose solder joint is easy to identify and fix, so the repair bill should not be high.
Please post back with your results.

What's a good replacement for Dell Dimension 4700 speakers (AS500PA) that crackle too much to turn on?

The best replacement would be a Mac. They are easy to use, take up less space than that big tower, have a beautiful screen, and only one cable, (if you use a wireless mouse and keyboard). Not to mention, with the new operating system, Snow Leopard, you can run Windows with the help of Boot Camp!

And how much are those old Windows headaches worth to you? Believe me, I had PCs for over 20 years, and just converted to the Mac. It's like night and day. No more Windows headaches, my computer is actually fun again!

Crackling sound

Make sure you have the right drivers installed by going to this page:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=2684&l=en&s=pub&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_3000

Choose your Operating system and then choose audio and download the software and install it.

After that if you still have crackling sounds, then try another set of speakers and if you still have the crackling sounds after replacing the speakers then its a problem with the motherboard cause it has onboard sound. Or you can buy a sound card that goes into a pci slot and install the software for it.

Dell studio 1737 speakers crackle and pop.

My best guess is, if they crackle with the speakers but not the headfones,  then replace the speakers. Must be a lose wire or something of that nature.

Dell Inspiron 5150 not playing sound

Your speakers are frying, hence the crackling sound, as this is a frequent problem owing to the location of the speaker assemblies and the sound output in an area of the system where the ambient heat exhaust vents are located.

I am a bit confused, though, as to why you get no better sound through headphones or external speakers, since this is not usually the case in this frequently cited problem.

One possibility is that not only are the speakers, but the entire sound output assembly.

Warrantee work if available, if not try a shop where they also sell used Dell computers as they will have pulls that could cut your losses.

Speakers work but crackle when in use with my dell 8300

Most likely this is because of a loose socket. Check to see if there's any dust or debris inside the audio socket(s). If cleaning it/them out doesn't work, then the socket is loose and the only way to fix the problem would be to get the sound-card repaired or buy a new sound-card.

It's my opinion that buying a new sound-card would be cheaper. You can find a good amount of them at this website. Simply navigate to Computer Hardware>Input Devices. Now on the left click, "Sound Cards." Watch out, though. There's a link labeled, "Sound Card Accessories." However, it doesn't lead you to the same page.

Let me know if I can assist you further or if I need to explain anything mentioned above in more detail.
