Donot use an extension cable or a USB hub. Connect the wireless adapter directly to the computer. Try with different USB ports on the computer. Try updating the latest driver. Check it with a different computer so that we can isolate if it is the issue with the computer.

My friend has an acer an she is trying to put the network adapter that were originaly on the computer becaus her boyfriend deleted it

Hi,
If I am understanding you. Then all that was done. Was to remove the drivers for them. So they won't show up. However they will appear with exclamation point in device manager.
(start/run/devmgmt.msc) then we just need to reinstall the drivers. to help you identify the needed driver check here http://support.acer.com/us/en/default.aspx. they can be stored on a flash drive and select update driver and point to the flash drive for the needed files.
GL
hope this helps

Wireless adapter not found

uninstall the drivers

click on start then right click on my computer, then click on manage, the a page will come up, on the left side of the page you will get the option of device manager on the left, once you will get the device manager, click on device manager, you will get the list of devices, in the list of devices, click on network adapters
once you click on network adapters there would be an option of wireless adapter, right click on wireless adapter and click on uninstall, once it is uninstalled, restart the computer, it will detect the drivers automatically

If you have Windows XP then try this, for Windows 7 and Vista also the procedure is similar. If you have Vista or 7 then tell me I'll post the tutorial for that also.
  1. In Windows XP, click the Start button and select Control Panel.

  2. Click the Network and Internet Connections category.

  3. Note: If you are using Classic View, you will see the control panel icons instead of categories. Double-click the Network Connections icon.

Laptop unable to connect to Internet

Assuming you are using Windows XP, try the following: Conntact the maker of your Laptop and find out how to remove their brand of wireless software so your computer defaults to the Windows built in wireless software.
Then:

1. Winsock Reset:
- Click the Start button and then click on Run.
- In the Run window command line type in CMD and press enter, or click OK.
- A black command prompt window will come up.
- At the command prompt type NETSH and press Enter.
- A NETSH command prompt will appear
- Type WINSOCK RESET then press Enter. It will display the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog.
You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.
2. Remove and reinstall the wireless adapter:
- Click on Start, the right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
- In the computer management window that opens, on the left side, choose Device Manager.
- Look for the network adapter heading in the list on the right. Click on the + next to network adapters.
- Right click on the wireless adapter listed under network adapters, choose uninstall. It may ask if you are sure you want to remove it, say yes.
- Close that window and restart the computer. As it reboots, it will reinstall the driver we just deleted. When it is completely start up, try your wireless connection.

In device manager Network Adaptor has yellow exclamation mark. "Windows cannot load the driver required for this device." My HP Pavillion laptop is under guarantee - was purchased Feb.2008.

Completely remove the LAN adapter and disable "Plug 'n Play OS" in the BIOS, as follows:
1) Remove the card from Device Manager, under Network Adapter
2) Delete C:\WINDOWS\INF\DRVDATA.BIN
3) Delete C:\WINDOWS\INF\DRVIDX.BIN
4) Delete the following files. Not all of them may exist.
  • C:\WINDOWS\INF\NET82557.INF
  • C:\WINDPWS\INF\NET559A9X.INF
  • C:\WINDOWS\INF\NET5579X.INF
5) Shutdown and restart the PC, and enter BIOS setup.
6) Find the option for Plug and Play BIOS, and disable it.**
7) Restart Microsoft Windows* 95 and use the Intel® installation diskette to reinstall the adapter.
