Dear WARD1095

Well the first thig to do here is to take down the model number and serial number of your drive. Once you have done this, then you will need to go to
http://www.driversupdate.org
this site will enable you to scan your computer for all drivers and software that is essential to your computer's functionality.

In addition to this, it may be beneficial to go to http://www.driverguide.com
this will enable you to find your device driver for your optical drive. (DVD ROM) Registration is obligatory but only takes a few moments.

The most drastic approach in addition this is to format your hard disk and re-install windows xp. Then install all new software on the system and you should be up and running in no tme. A complete wipe re-load wil also thow up other results if a hardware problem is present. If this s the case, strip the entire system back, and query each component. As default, winxp should still load non base system device drivers in order for your optical drive to still function during install. (any basic driver/ hardware function to still allow the system to work, but at a minium level). much in he same ay that graphics cards work. (can still install on a PCI-EX) card, but will only install minimum, non specific drivers.

Well I do hope that this works for you, and if you can provide me with your model number then i will be able to findyou the user manual and the softwarethat relates to your make/ model of vendored equipment.

Hope to hear from you soon,

kind regards and yours sincerley

Hi,

No need to install the drivers for the burner.

Or

I think you mean the burning software like nero.

Or

If you mean the drive icon is not present in the my computer

You can delete the upper & lowwr filters from the registry.

My PC is an IDE. the dvd/cd burner went bad. I baught this new LG burner today with an IDE to SATA adapter with the needed cables. I installed it all and it wont even come on, not working. So I am guessing...

It is not the dvd driver problem but more likely to have the adapter issue. The generic Microsoft cd/dvd dirver should be fine, I never have to install and driver for the replacement DVD/CD drive on any of my repair works.
Did you try this setup with another PC?

My lenovo 3000 j series shows I have a cd-rom instead of the dvd burner I have, so I can't burn anything, how do I change the computer over so it'll see it's a dvd burner, and not a cd-rom ?

Go to device manager and check the DVD rom drive has been detected. Also check you have installed the drivers for the same.

Revert back for more assistance.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Hi Rose, I'm Fred, and I am a Dell tech. :).
External drives are tricky because the computer may not be able to access them to boot from. Your best option is search for a replacement to the optical (cdrom) drive. Since you are buying one, try to get a dvd burner or dvd reader or cdrom burner. They are usually only a few dollars more, and come in handy down the road. Now, if you cannot get this computer repaired for less than 70 bucks, scrap it. the gx60 is a high-end pentium 3, and not worth much additional money. You can purchase a perfectly good used dell pentium 4 from gearxs for about 80 bucks, with windows XP, and all the basics installed, shipped to your house. the gx60 is not worth a heavy investment, unless you just happen to have the parts and the time.

DVD/Cd Burner won't run programs.

All you need to do is that put the CD in the CD/DVD drive that you have access and not properly closed. For example here is the situation. I put a cd installer with a file named in the cd setup.exe and it is located in drive D: i access the file setup.exe and I run it or install.. then I decided not to install the programs.. what I did is that is did not cancel the installation but rather I immediately open my cd/dvd drive and get the cd..

What are going to happen? the installation is in the process and I did not cancel the installation properly. In the installation logs of the windows it still have to install the programs but it cannot find the file setup.exe that is located in the Drive D:.

Try to put a cd in your cd/dvd drive with file named setupexe on the cd.. that will solve your problems. TY

HOPE I CAN HELP

How do I know what dvd burner I have installed in my note book...and then how do I know what blank dvd/cd will work in my pc. I am trying to do the back up recovery for application and drivers and ISO

For DVD/CD you dont need any drivers so dont worry about recovery. Your system will detect your CD/DVD rom when next time it will reboot
