Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HP Notebook G60. My computer was burning cd's fine at first. Then I started burning dvd's. There started being issues with the cd's. Some players the discs would in and others they wouldn't. My hard drive was checked and it was a hard drive issue. It falls under warranty because I purchased it in February. Is the burner hooked up properly or is there an updated software program needed?

Start > Run
Type devmgmt.msc and then press Enter. Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right click on the drive and hit properties.
What's the model of the drive? We can look it up to make sure it's not just a profile problem, e.g., if the drive doesn't support specific DVD/CDs. We can also check if there's a firmware update available.
Not sure how it was a hard drive issue. How was it checked? What was done? Seems peculiar.

What is the Lifespan of CD Drives? I have an HP dv7 that seems like the cd rom is not communicating well with the machine. Could it be software related?

Burning CD-R or DVD-R shortens the life cycle of any CD-R or DVD-R drive, while reading is generally. If you have burnt 1 disc per day, it is not surprising your DVD-RW drive is worn out.

1 detail to take into consideration: if you use ReWritable media, change them from time to time. I thought my DVD-Recorder was dead as I got a lot of non responding issue with DVD+RW media (while my computer had no problem to read these media), and finally getting rid off the old media and taking newer DVD+RW media has given the DVD-Recorder 3 more years.

No real problem just trying to figure out what kind of cd and dvd to burn with rw rw+ ect ect

R means write (yeah...) once the data has been burnt you cannot delete or change the files
RW means re-writable, the data can be burnt and then copied over again.

R+ and R- are specific for different types of copying, for burning data either disc format is fine

DVD/CD-ROM drive not working. Drivers were reinstalled and still not operational. Message received that there is a problem with the registry - how can this be fixed?

Find a "bootable" CD-R disk (Ubuntu Linux, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7) and restart your computer, and tell it to "boot" from the disk inserted into the CD/DVD disk. If it reads from the CD/DVD, then the hardware is OK. If it cannot read the disk, then it's time to replace the "broken" CD/DVD device.

Try removing the battery and the power cable for about 30-40 min and then plug it back in. If that doesn't work try contacting HP. I had a similar issue with a Toshiba replaced the HDD and after that it was fine. So I would say try those, if all else fails post on www.techsupportforum.com.

Hi I'm Rain ,
Ok follow these instructions to reboot your CD Rom drive.

  1. click start then My Computer .
  2. In My Computer right click the DVD/CD rom drive icon .
  3. In the list , Click eject to see if the drive is being reconized .
  4. If nothing happens repeat steps 1-2
Now when you get to sep 3 you will click properties .

5. In properties click Hardware .

6. In Hardware click the DVD/CD device to highlight it .

7. Click properties .

Now look to the bottom of that window to see device status .
If it says , this device is working properly .Properties .
Next click Driver . In driver you will see a list of option tabs that allows you to , Roll Back driver Update driver and Disable driver .
The other option is Driver Details.

Click Roll Back driver to restore the driver back to the state before you added the latest program . Click ok and follow the screen instructions.
If this fails , you can follow these steps to get back to Driver and chose
Disable Driver . Click ok if another window pops up.
Now what you are doing is rebooting the DVD/CD rom drive.
This will restart all the drivers that are associated with the DVD/CD rom
device .
Now follow all the steps again to get back to Driver .
Now in Driver you will need to click Enable to restart the DVD/CD rom
device . Reboot your system and try the DVD/ CD tray to see if it responds . If it still fails to respond you most likely will need to replace or service the DVD/CD Rom Hardware { the Tray } .

Copy cds and dvds

If the notebook is preinstalled with Vista you can do windows native burning (With out any software) CD and DVD disks, where as XP has only CD native burning. in order to do this just right click on the folder what u want to and select send to CD/DVD drive option. hpoe this could resolve the issue.
