Unplug the phone line from the fax machine. Wait at least 1 minute then call the phone number that goes to the fax machine from another line such as a cell phone. Make sure you get a ring and not a busy signal. If you get a ring then hang up the phone. Plug in the fax machine again and call the fax number again. If you get a busy signal then either your phone if off the hook, the switch that is actuated when the phone is placed in the cradle is bad or your modem in the fax machine itself has gone bad. Another thing to try is unplug the fax machines power cord for 30 seconds then plug it back in. I have seen the modems get "locked up" and keep the phone line open. Unplugging will sometimes reset this and get it working again.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Just check your Tellephone lines. The one that comes from the wall must go in to LINE on the back of the fax and the exturnal phone plug in at the Ext.Plug hole.....If that is not the problem you can put a normal phone in the wall socked and listen if you can hear a dailing tone.If not get your tellecom provider to check out your lines .if you do hear a dailing tone then the board in the fax is been damage.

The tel 1 and 2 buttons are flashing green along with stand by. The phone line has no dial tone and its busy when we call the line..

When the tel light blinks this indicates that the line is in use. To trouble shoot this issue you will need to connect a phone directly to the tel 1 port of your modem. If you have dial tone when directly connect that means that there is an issue with the internal wiring of the home. If you still do not have any dial tone with the phone directly connect than there is an issue with the modem and it needs to be replaced.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

Fax problem

I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone? When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work. If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP. If you can verify that, we can go from there.

No dial tone pressing hook, NG and Poor line condition transmission report on sending and receiving. Confirmed good dial tone on line in and on phone on ext. Copy, display, everything else fine. I hear...

Hello,

Make sure that you have your telephone line from the wall jack plugged into the port on the fax that says "LINE" and that your telephone is plugged into EXT.

All your cables and jacks seem like they are working since your phone gets a dial tone, the onyl thing could be that the wires are mixed or the modem on the fax is broken.

Thanks,

Pat

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K

A new phone system I have bought requires the jacks in my home to be in parallel. If I remove the cover from a phone jack, is there a way to tell if it's hooked up in a parallel circuit? If it's not in...

A parallel phone system means all phone jacks are connected in a series. From phone jack A to phone jack B to phone jack C. That means if jack A is not functioning properly or has a short ,all other phone jacks in that series will cease to function. The other type of system is a home run system.Meaning all phone jacks are ran independently outside to service provider NID Network Interface Device. This is the best to trouble shoot because if one jack fails the others will continue to operate independently. The best way to check is to remove the lead from one side of the phone jack, after carefully removing from wall. Check for a dial tone at other phone jacks if no, replace lead at the initial jack. If dial tone returns you have a series system.

I just purchased the Trimline Model 29265 phone and in the instructions it says that it can be wall mounted if you reverse the handset hook in the base? Where is the handset hook and how do you reverse it. Nothing in the instructions tells you where it is nor how to fix it.

No dial tone

Have you tried a known good phone in the jack, if that doesn't work take the phone to the demarc box provided by your phone company and open the door on the box. Under this door locate the mini jack and disconnect it, then plug your known good phone into that jack. If you get no dial tone at this point, then it isn't being provided by the local phone company so it's their trouble. Thank you. Jerry

No Dial Tone

If you are sure that both cords are good (use another phone to test), make sure the Speaker button light is off. If both lines stay lit up when the phone is on the hook, your phones has problems. Can't help you there.

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice.
