Question about Washing Machines

Washer won't fill

My washer keeps draining when it needs to be filling up with water. The water just keeps running but it never gets filled up because the water keeps draining out on the fill cycle. What could be wrong?

We have a Kenmore stackable. It fills and fills and fills but never fills up. The machine seems to be draining at the same time. It can take over 3 hours to do a load and each load drains all the hot water from the hot water tank. I can get it to move to spin if I manually move the dial but you can see the water draining out as it spins.
In a previous post you mentioned that a similar problem might be because of dirt on the drain valve. Is this something I can fix? Can I find instructions somewhere?
    Thanks

On the drain valve there must be some dirt that does not let the valve close or the valve must be defective and needs to be replaced. By the way you did not mention the make of the washer.

Check to be sure the drain line is higher that the tub of the washer. You have a siphon going on the drain.

My maytag mtw5600tq1 washer won't hold water. Its

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

Kenmore washer 90 series continue to fill w/water. Load size won't stop the fill... had to shut off water source. won't get to agitate phase... just want to stay at fill stage... can drain, spin,...

Sounds like the fill switch needs to be replaced. A good way to test it is to set your machine on low fill and see if it fills past 3/4. If it does, it's the fill switch.

Roper washer leaks when filling

It's in the drain hose somewhere, during the fill the water gets as deep in the drain hose as it does in the washer, during the wash the pump runs in reverse keeping the water level in the hose low, during the drain the hose is filled again.
Prop the washer up in front on a couple bricks or boards, start putting in water until it starts to leak and take a peak under the machine.

My washer will not spin and can only fill tub on small loads cause water will run out

does the water keep running and it keeps draining the water? if so your drain hose needs to be higher than the highest water level in the tub or it will drain as it fills.

Doesn't fill all the way

the solution to the problem was....a few days before we noticed the washer was not filling all the way, the plumber had come over to clear our pipe, because it was not draining. He had tightened the clamp we were using to keep the pipe in place too tightly, it was air tight and it was creating a vacuum and siphoning the water out when it got to a certain level. We took the clamp off since there was no longer a need for it and the washer fills up and drains as it should.

Water will not stop filling washer

cut power to washer ..does it stop filling? suspect water level control or small hose to it is off ..keeps running in? shut off water to washer and change fill valve where hoses attach..just won't fill to top and start? raise level of drain hose up and be sure it is not too tight in drain pipe to prevent siphoning

Water keeps running

missmelissa, sounds like you are siphoning. Lift the drain hose from the drain and see if it fills then. You need to have a air gap on the drain so you don't get the siphoning affect. Catriver..post back.
