When you say replaced the convergence twice, are you refering to the convergence boards or the FL231 fuse? If its the FL231 fuse unless you replaced the DL231 and CL230 plus reflowed the solder on the flyback it will continue to keep blowing untill the 3 parts are replaced together and the flyback gets resoldered. If you replaced the convergence boards then try resoldering the flyback.
the board mounted overtop the of the chasis is the convergence power supply board
replace that board will bring your tv back to life
then go into menu readjust convergence red and blue DO NOT MOVE GREEN
The failure is not on the power supply but the convergence amplifiers STKICs have the 24 volts shorted.
If that fuse is blowing, de-solder the convergence ICs and put a new fuse to power up the TV; you should see distorted video when the TV powers up and the fuse should not blow.
The service manual migth not help much in this case since the failure is easy to pin point.
no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.
You most likely need a new convergence power supply board if fl231 keeps blowing thats the most likely cause, also check for shorthed capacitor cp231. If you need a link to get a replacement convergence power supply board, let me know I know where you can get them.
This is an indication that the convergence amps are drawing too much current which has an effect on the power supply and thus killing your sound by removing or lowering the voltage supplied to that stage, finally this results in the blowing of the fuse. I would suggest that you change the convergence amplifiers and the biasing resistors (All of them) and then see if this corrects your problem (I believe it will). Also get a schematic of the TV and try to find out how the power supply relates the sound module and the convergence module, they might share a common power bus, or the voltage regulator for the sound also feeds the convergence board.
Two boards govern this circuit . 1) convergence power supply board # 271860 2) convergence amplifer # 271861 . In most cases amp board is your problem . You might want to check the amp board for loose connections on it .Most of the times its the cable sockets on the borad have loose pins . This the board that has the metal heat sinks in a row of about nine of them on the board . Good luck
If the convergence power supply fuses blew you can bet that the convergence ICs need to be changed. The blue connector will be pressed down on the rear of the connector to release or pulled up on the back end of the socket.
