Look for bad caps as shown in my pictures here first:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VE710B/

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

ViewSonic VA1926w monitor dims darker when there's dark content on the screen. I have 2 of these monitor connected to a Pro Mac. Only the right side monitor does this.

Its the dynamic contrast ratio (DCR) that dims the display when dark images are displayed.
For my VA1926w, pressing the right most button (up arrow), enables or disables DCR. Keep this disabled.

Re: Problems with Viewsonic VE710b

If it's too dark to see the menu to adjust the brightness, it's a bad backlight - send it back!

VS10162 back screen

The reason I ask you to hook up the viewsonic directly to the PC is to find out if the problem is in the USB adapter or in the monitor itself, you can also try your Viewsonic with other computer.
Basically just have the PC, VIEWSONIC, NO USB or the monitor. We need to narrow down the problem.

VA1703wb Viewsonic Monitor backlight

The problem can be bad power supply feeding the backlight inverter circuits due to bad caps, or in the inverter circuits, or worst case will be bad lamps, you need to open it up and tell us what you see inside first, good pictures will help, see example of failed VIEWSONIC due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Extremely Dim/Dark ViewSonic Monitor

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

My ViewSonic computer monitor keeps displaying a Vga Not Support Message upon booting then the message Out Of Range comes up on a completely dark screen. Need Help

It sounds like the computer is trying to use a resolution that the monitor cannot handle. Boot into safe mode by pressing the f8 key during boot up and select safe mode. Once booted, right click on the desktop and select properties. In settings lower the resolution by moving the bar to the left and reboot.

I would move it all the way down, you can then move it up a step at a time once you are in normal mode again.

Hope this helps
