The battery status only shows up when the satnav is disconnected from the charger. Your first charge should be a continuous charge until the battery is full. This can be done by connecting it to your computer for 8 hours approximately or 4 hours to your car cigarette lighter socket or 4 hours to an, optional extra, mains charger.
Had the same problem. Fixed with a new battery. Takes the same as a Streetpilot c530 and can be purchased anywhere on line. A 10 minute job with a soldering iron.
1. Open face plate. Unscrew 4 screws. Remove battery connector and clip.
2. Unsolder the wires to the two speakers - 4 wires.
3. Remove the sticky wrap from the old battery and place around the new one (to stop it rattling).
4. Solder back the new speaker wires.
5. Plug in battery, reassemble unit and charge Garmin off PC wih usb cable.
Done!
just bought a battery for my Garmin 330 C off ebay for around 20 and put it in myself, not a bit undertaking although you need a battery operated soldering device to make it easy.
The silver faceplate snaps off (there is a tab at the top of the screen); remove the silver faceplate, remove the 4 screws to open the unit. The battery is located on the back half, and is conected to the circuit cards with a balck and red wire through a small connector that also as two brown and white wires for the speakers.
