If your hard disk is only 1 partition right now, reformatting the hard disk, then deleting the current partition and creating additional partitions is the way to do it. This means, you also have to reinstall Windows. if you do not want to reinstall Windows, look for programs like partition magic or the like that can allow you to create additional partitions, though, there are cases this may have issues later.

Try booting from your OS (operating system software) CD,i.e. Windows XP, Vista or 7. If that works then you will need to to reload OS.

I installed a new internal hard drive in my Inspiron 1750 laptop. I am getting a No boot sector on internal hard drive error. How do I get it to boot up and get recognized?

Have you installed the Windows OS on the new HDD? Insert the new Windows OS in the DVD rom drive, shut down, Unplug, remove battery, plug in, at boot the new OS DVD should start and ask Press any key to boot from CD/DVD, tap key.

I want to restore my inspiron 1501 (Service Tag 35CT93J) but nothings happens with F8, F12, crt+f11, alt+F10. What shall i do?

The factory restore partition only functions if it is in tact. Have you manually installed an OS on this system which you formatted the hard drive? If so then the restore partition is now gone. If you have not then pressing CTRL+F11 while booting should start the DSR partition.
An alternative is you may be able to contact Dell and inquire about getting a restore CD for your system.
If you can not boot to the DSR and/or can not get a disc from Dell then you will have to purchase a copy of Windows and perform an install from that CD.
This particular model would be able to support operating on Windows 7 Home Premium if you max out your memory to 2GB. If you choose to go this route then purchase a "Full Retail" copy of the OS or you will not be permitted to wipe and reload the system according to the licensing. An upgrade will require you to have an existing license to a previous version of windows and will carry over any problems you have.

First of all, since you have no OS, you will need to purchase a copy from the computer store. Put the disk in the drive and boot the computer. As it's booting up press F2 and set to boot from CD. The Windows install shield will put the Windows OS onto your hard disk and install all the drivers for all conected devices, including the web cam.

hmm..sounds like maybe there's a compatibility issue. do you have the original vista installation disks. Do that, first, restore operation, then go to www.microsoft.com for step by step instructions on upgrades. And you may wish to back up hard drive first too.

New hard drive- what to do next

start with the first disc of the OS, then follow the on screen instruction,
usually default is good.
if you have a USB enclosure for the drive(cheap, less than 20$) you can also use the trial version of acronis true image to clone the hard disk to the new one and then installing it without having to reinstall anything.
