should have clarified on my part, sorry. The speaker wires were checked for shorts and the meter read all these as fine and receiving the correct amount of power, as far as overheating it doesnt stay on long enough to really tell if its overheating. the amp is a kicker zx 100.2 model

Protection blinks because there is a fault condition. Check the wiring at the back of the amp and stereo. Ensure that the draw from the amp is not excessive, in case use a capacitor.

If that does not solve the problem, it means that there is an internal fault, in that case the amp must be disassembled and tested to find the problem.

The obvious thing to check is incorrect output wiring. Remove all connections from the output terminals(speaker connections. If the protection light still comes on, measure supply voltage and remote turn-on voltage(should be more than 12V, less than 16 Volt). Measure earth. Voltage measurement between amp earth connection and battery negative should be no more than 0.5V.
With voltages correct and no speakers connected and the unit still does not turn on it is faulty and needs to be sent for repair. You could attempt a repair yourself, the most common fault is a blown power IC which causes a short circuit on the output. If you dont have any electronics training I would advise against attempting a repair yourself.
If voltages are correct, no speakers connected and the unit powers up then check your wiring and speakers for short circuit. Also check the speaker impedance. 2ohm speakers can be connected in stereo mode. 4 ohm in mono(bridged) mode. Do not connect speakers in parallel. See diagram. The correct wiring is shown for connecting single speaker per channel and multiple speaker per channel. The resultant impedance for connecting the 2 speakers in series is 4 ohm which is correct as your speaker impedance should always be more than the amp output impedance. protection light blinks and amp - c5596ae.jpg

On the stereo diagram xover should be off. Xover acts as a filter

    • off - Full spectrum audio

    • Lo - Lo pass filter - anything under 80 Hz passes

    • Hi - Hi pass filter - anything over 80 Hz passes
For SAMS operation (stereo with sub) lo and hi pass filters should be installed as shown. The speaker impedance should not be less than shown.

First of all check the speakers cables for short circuit (using a multimeter would be gratefull) or the amplifier / player for overheating.

Have you check the power DC 12Volt? Sometimes if this power is low these kind of amps are stopping for protection.

Another idea: Just for trying, disconnect the audio input and check if it will stay at power onstate with and without speakers cables connected.

Why is HDMI LED blinking and there is no power to the amplifier?

I assume that you are connecting your amp to a hi-def TV. Can you try out the TV stand-alone and see if it works? Perhaps there is a problem with the TV. The blinking light tells me that there is a HDMI related problem. What is connected to the HDMI? Check the cable and make sure both ends are connected properly. Disconnect the HDMI cable and see if the amp will turn on. Does it work? Do the lights on the amp come on? Give us some more details. Try the above and report back.

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD “device” and “menu” buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC’s is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

if it is 2,2 I have start to finish instructions for this repair in this model.

JBL amp, worked fine untill 2 days ago. protection light on..

might have roasted your speakers voice coils a little which may be sending the amp into protect mode throw a speaker on it that you know works and if it doesnt trigger the protect circuit then you probably have a blown or almost sub.

This means there is a problem with the system it is in the protect mode it will not come out of that mode untill repairs are made. More than likley the power amp is blown.

Mitsubishi VS-50607 Won't Turn On

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.
