Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera
I borrowed a friend's camera and returned it with no problems and now she tries to use it and the green light comes on for power, but the camera just beeps with a black screen and the camera will do nothing at all. She took it to a camera shop and they briefly looked at it and said it was probably dropped. I did not drop it. Would there be any other reason for it to just beep. She has tried several different sets of batteries to no avail!
See what type of batteries she's been using. Have her try it with a "new" set of the same brand that you were using. Digital cameras really are battery hogs (especially cameras that use only 2 AA's). Some brands of batteries will have problems just starting up the camera. This may be true even if they're alkaline, brand new, and just out of the package.
If she gets it working, let her know that digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Walmart sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.
