Question about Sony Handycam HDR-HC3 HDV Digital Camcorder

HD Video Capture Problem Hi, I am not very familiar with the sony HDR-HC3 camera and video capture. I need your help in video capturing HD to my pc, I have do everything by the book but it still does not work! to simply the process I created a figure (link below) which explains the hold process and what hardware I have. If you have the time to take a look and find a solution I will be very greatful for this as all my family moments are at risk. The problem I think lays in the PC not the camera or software. It maybe is the i.Link cable but it's listed in device manager (see link) but not in the taskbar area! is there some option in my pc hardware or DOS setup for this! 1) Do I need to install camera pulg-in drivers for the HDR-HC3 camera! 2) Do I need a video capture card for the HDR-HC3 camera! http://www.my-rv.org/fig.jpg thank again, stewart It sounds like my problem also. I have Windows XP SP2, 4GB RAM, eMachines T6212, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, NVIDIA GeForce 7600, In checking the control system panel/devices it does show I have OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. I am using firewire. One end is connected to the 1394 firewire port and the other end is connected to my Sony HDR HC3 handycam. I have used this same handycam to capture video before and it worked. Now, about 3 months later, I try to capture the new video I shot, and keep getting the same error message: Pinnacle Studio Plus is unable to connect to device. ULead Video: Either no video capture device is in the system, or no driver is installed. WMM: No video capture device deteted. When using Pinnacle Studio 10.6, and the capture source settings drop down menu on has "DV Camcorder." I thought before this trouble it let me select from several different capture devices including my Sony HDR HC3. The only option in the Capture Format drop down menu are DV and MPEG 1/2. I've tried having the camera on before starting my video capture/edit software to no avail.I have also tried turning my video camera on AFTER launching the video capture software. Any ideas on how to solve mr problem?

Will a sony HDR-SR10E camcorder support a firewire IEEE 1394 cable

hi,
No, sorry but this cam doesn't have FW port...
if it is for access to your records for editing, use USB
If it is for streaming, broadcasting or recording on a PC, use the HDMI output and HDMI capture card...
that's all...
cheers,
mich

Sony CCD-TRV438E Hi-8 Analog Camcorder i need driver to connect with my pc

You need to buy a TV card which comes with audio /video composite sockets. these are female RCA or phono sockets which are also found on your camera.TV cards come with their own software to be able to capture pictures from your Hi 8 Camcorder using the av cables like the ones you use from your DVD to your TV set. There are other cards which carry the av sockets and come with video capture software. These cards are usually PCI cards which are fitted into your PCI slot in your PC motherboard. One other software that comes with such a card is Pinnacle Studio. Its called the Pinnacle AV/DV pci capture card. The one I use is just a DC 10 which works with Studios version 8. Please try any of these cards for your video capture

I searched under HDR-HC3 firewire driver and got the above link.

It says the following:

Hi..

The problem was a missing MSDV.SYS file.

Thanks
D.

Actually, on the Sony site it says that no additional drivers are required to connect the camera in Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

But, the user of this camera and firewire noted that he was having trouble convincing windows of this.

Another link that talks about the firewire problem follows:

You can find more links by searching under 'HDR-HC3 firewire driver' or related searches to find the solution to your problem.

I hope this helps.

Sony analogue Hi8 Handycam as a security camera

Hi!

You need to have things with you before you can proceed to use it as a security camera. As your's is a analog camera we will require a video capture card connected with your pc/laptop.

After you have one connect that with your pc and pTo get the video into your computer, you need a analogue to digital video capture card....otherwise, connect the camcorder to a CD or DVD player/recorder, and use the CD/DVD as a source for your video editing... Otherwise, you need a later model of SONY "Digital 8" digital camcorder which plays analogue tape, and with this your computer can capture the video via firewire

For details on how to record using a software and video capture card please look at this link---
Handycam as Security camera

If you find this solution helpful then do rate this solution.

Thanks

Would like to know if I can hook it up to a computer?

You need to have an analog capture card on your PC, so that the analog video be converted to digital, if its already on your hard disk(video data, you can record it to disk or whatever you want(share, upload etc.). But its a tricky one, you should be familiar with video formats, AVI, MPEG etc, there are cards that can capture directly to MPEG, but in order to minimize data loose, capture it in AVI format, edit, render then burn to disk. IF your familiar with PC operations, just follow the instructions of the capture card that you will install. You can do some experiments as long as you already have the hardware.thanks

Sony HDR-HC3 camera won't connect in HD mode in iMovie HD or FCP HD

What software are you using to capture the HD footage? Are you using the supplied software, or another package. It is likely that you have a software incompatibility. i.e. windows will recognise DV natively, but HDV requires specific codecs and software installed on your PC.
