If the wattage rating is less it will definitely go hot. Resistor overheating may be due to leaky capacitors also. If input voltage is higher also this could happen. If the performance of the TV is fine not to worry.

If smoke comes from the resitor, you have to be alert. If you find the TV performance is OK , you can increase the wattage of the resistor, keeping the same resistor value.
Do not flush mount the resistor to the PCB. Mount it at a higher level and solder.

My TV died. How do I get the Sharp LC-70LE600U to power on?

If this was a sudden failure, it may have been caused by a blown line fuse.

This is normally located near where the AC line cord comes into the set.

If a conventional fuse it may be a glass or ceramic tube with metallic ends although there are many variations with some soldered to the circuit board of the power supply which is often modular and suing much larger components than the main or auxiliary boards and having an aluminum structure called a 'heat-sink.'

Tv turns on but sometimes shuts off without pushing the on-off button

I recommend taking this TV to your local TV Repair Center and have them test for "Cold Soldier Joints" near the Flyback Transformer or 5V Power supplies. This is caused by these soldier joints warming up and breaking contact. Over time of them heating up and colling down, the joints flex and contract, which causes cracks in the joints.
This can be just the first step to the repair. They may have to replace the 5V low and high transistors.

Im getting no power whatsoever heard a pop last time i turned it on now nothing

The tv power supply board it is dead. That the board, where the power a/c cord plug into it.U have all the tools and understanding basic electronic also can do basic soldering work?Yes,take ur tv aparts.Check the whole power supply board carefully,by replacing all those blown capacitors that are busted open and all those capacitors are dying going to dead like bulging up or puffing up on to it tops.Replacing all those dead capacitors to a those new capcitors,do some modification of the capacitors parts like by replacing it in the same Micro fered, but the voltages should be 5 or 10 higher than those old busted or dying bulging up tops capacitors.By replacing all these dead capacitors and dying capacitors with a higher voltages capacitors. These capacitor to have a better chances to take more heat resistance, while tv be watching for hours of using. The tv should have power and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Tv will not come on , some guy came out and said its the low voltage pwr supply, whats the cost of the supply, what does it look like and is it easy to replace if you know how to handle a soldering gun, tv...

just take your tv to a near w/shop, and ask a tech, to check components, on the power supply.
components like transistors, diodes, ic if any on thepower supply, all eletrolitic capacitors values, and change all changed value capacitors. because if capacitors change values they change oscillation hence increasing current output.
if you do that your set will come back to life again.

Green red snow after tv warms up

Hello Wang77,

You probably have a faulty PTC problem, the black square thing near your AC input on the PCB Board, if we are talking about normal CRT TV here. This black thing supplies power to your deggausing coil and gradually turns off as it heats up. If PTC is OK, could be an open D. coil. check resistance of your deggausing coil...around 24 to 50 ohms but not more than 100.

...PTC could be of 3 pins or 2 pins.

Good Luck.
