Hmm, that is a really good question. While I am not certain, I suppose that part of FixYa's sucess is the amazingly broad range of problem solving information available to the customer. FixYa uses the lifetime experiences of amateur and professional people from all over the planet to answer questions in nearly every topic. Personally, I continue to answer questions because of the amazing things I can continue to learn while finding these answers. I don't know if I have answered your question in the way you hoped, but I have answered it the best way I know:)
Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi wkojiro. I think it has to do with FixYa's basis on the belief that almost everyone has a skill-set, be it common or arcane, that can be of use to someone else, combined with the belief that people really do want to help one another if presented with the opportunity. By covering a broad range of products (2 million and counting) and attracting a wide audience of users, we increase the likelihood that a question posted on our site will be found and answered by an Expert familiar with the topic. Another one of FixYa's strong points, especially in these lean times, is our economic appeal. Askers can post questions for free, or pay as little as $6 to receive guaranteed assistance from our top Experts. These sessions can save people hundreds of dollars, making FixYa a very smart choice. SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Wherev did the Q i already ask go and how many more time i neded ti ask

Hi Dann:

I think it's part of the fun of participating in FIXYA that people get to "throw" their problems out into the ether, and if a FIXYA reader just happens to see it and understands what you are asking, andknows the answer, and has the time to reply, the best that they can come up with will appear as an answer on your original post, and you will be notified.

If you want to continue a dialogue with that person about your question, you have to respond as a comment on the thread that contains the answer.

Otherwise, you will end up with another post that no-one knows what you are talking about.

There will NEVER be a guarantee that any question wil or will not be answered. That's part of the fun.

Do your best to really describe your problem and that will give a FIXYA addict the opportunity to try to help you.

Cheers

Tip

How to Successfully Use FixYa and get prompt results

Although FixYa is pretty straight-forward and easy to use, here's a few helpful hints to make sure you're getting all the FixYa value for your effort.
1. Be sure to categorize your question in the right area.
When we FixYa experts log in to start helping to answer questions, we'll get a list of current questions that are listed in the Categories that we've selected from a long list. We only get questions on our homepage that deal with the categories we've selected. So if you've put a question about a coffee maker online and you've unknowingly placed that question in the cars category, chances are that the coffee maker expert won't see your question. The best way to properly categorize your question is to use the
"Browse by Brand" window. This will allow you to narrow it down to the exact or closest to location to make sure your question will get answered by and expert that really knows how to help you.
2. Give as much information about your product and symptoms as you can.
For example, if you're posting a car question: Give us make, model, engine size, type of trans, mileage,etc.. All this can come into play for us to give a more effective answer. For appliances: Give us make, model, fuel type, and describe the symptoms as best you can... "Won't run" is pretty vague... give us a few details..
3. Before you send your question, re-read it to make sure it makes sense, won't be misunderstood. A good rule of thumb is to read it out loud and listen to yourself. It only takes a minute and can help us help you better, faster, and more accurately. And there's no need to use foul language. You can let us know you're frustrated, but you're more likely to get an Expert to choose your question if you keep it clean.
4. Check your email fairly frequently for FixYa comments.
5. Post your solutions as comments to your question. Once your problem is solved, stop back by and post the solution as a comment on your question. This helps us to know that you've got the solution, but it also helps those who are searching for similar solutions through the FixYa website! Let your solutions help others as well!
6.Remember that all us experts, and gurus are human, we're trying to help and we're definitely not perfect and can use encouragement from those we've helped. We always appreciate getting reports back from those we've helped, to hear of FixYa victories. So if you can take the time to stop back by and drop us a followup... it's always appreciated.

How do I get a quick responce to this question?

I see you posted this question 3 times, one hour ago. The response you get is not what you expect.
I even can't guess what you want, because I try to help people with questions I can answer. Most of the time the questions are technical related. I live in Europe and as a retired technician I think I can use my knowledge for other people.
This question, you are asking, should be in an e-mail, or a real letter, addressed to the firm you want an answer from.
The internet can be helpful, but it has to be used as it was meant to be used. I think you have higher expectations from the net then you have from real people. But really try to solve this problem like you used to solve this before the internet era, and you could be successful.

Sorry for my reaction it is not meant offensive. I just hope you know what to do. Call, send an e-mail, send a letter by post, or visit the website from the firm you want to reach and press the how to contact us button, but don't put down text in any website, expecting your problems are solved that way.

Why does FixYa hijack search results?

When you ask, search or find questions-answers on fixya, often you are given 'recommended' answers if no expert has directly answered question before.
Same with searches.
When google-searching a product, and fixya appears as first-page result on google, then that often means there are no other resources available on internet ... and fixya might have posted that product without any resources to offer ... possibly hoping that new expert will join and offer explanation.
But then you can post question on fixya, and expert might have found resources ... or maybe not... for example, really old products, discontinued products, may not have any information available. Other times, companies rename a product so they appear to offer a unique item with intention of making comparison shopping more difficult... that's why a clear description of product and problem are important when asking a question.
When asking question on fixya, best results when full information is given, including age of product, name and brand and model of product, photo or video of product, full detailed explanation of problem, and what has been tried so far to resolve problem.... this information can quickly tell expert what the issue is, and how to best resolve problem ... if possible. Obviously, some things can't be fixed, and nobody is expert in everything.
For example, just asking for a manual without giving product description will often lead to unanswered or incorrectly answered question.
It's also possible that fixya truncates the question so expert cannot see whole question. At least one person reported that his/her question was chopped off, and so expert was trying to answer different question than person wanted.
The experts here provide genuine service to folks ... and we know this from periodic feedback arriving from people who asked questions.
You could join and become welcome expert also. Especially if you have knowledge and resources on copiers, printers, TVs, automobile repair, appliance repair, websites, etc etc. The actual categories offered are extensive.

Why is FixYa such a worthless website for getting solutions?

Fixya is a site based on helping others. You post a question, and if somebody knows the answer, they can help you out. Just because you ask, doesn't mean that somebody will always know the answer. Try posting at different times of the day when different people are active. Be descriptive in your question. "my car doesn't start" is not a descriptive question and the answer is hard to pinpoint. Most experts will avoid answering. Everybody is good at something and is considered an "expert" on here at that specific thing. I tend to answer car stereo questions or some GM car problems. Others might know alot about refrigerators or blenders. Be patient and descriptive. Post your question in the correct format a few times a day, and if somebody can help, I'm sure they will.

When can I expect to receive an answer to my question concerning my HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One? The question was sent 8.03.2011. at 11.15 p.m.(Local Danish time) Regards Jesper Innes

It depends on the type of question you've posted. If it was a premium question and you've paid for the same then hopefully you might have received it on the same day you've posted. Usually, a premium question will be answered within an hour. If I am not wrong, it must be a premium question. If you have problem finding the answer, login to FixYa.com, click the "My FixYa" on the upper top corner of the page, click "My Activity" and then click your problem related to your printer and check for the answer.

Actually, if a user receives answers or comments, an email regarding the comment/answer is sent to the user's email address as a notification. Check your email address and see whether you've got any notification about the problem you've posted or not.

Also, at the time when you login to your fixya account, you will see a ribbon with "View " or similar button will be displayed on the top of the page, if you find this, simply click it and you'll be directed to the page.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

What are bonus earnings on fixya?

Hi BluWolve, welcome to FixYa! There are many ways to earn money on FixYa, but it sounds like you're referring to the questions with the green dollar amounts on the buttons. Those are Marketplace Questions, and they represent questions where the asker has indicated their willingness to pay for a successful solution, but has not yet entered a payment. If you post a solution to a Marketplace Question, the asker will have to pay in order to view it. If they do, they will then be able to post comments for you, if they require more info. If you have successfully solved their problem, they can "Accept" your solution, and you will be credited the amount on the button, minus a 15% processing fee (the actual payout is listed on the Post Answer page). If your solution does not solve the problem, or if the asker posts a question and you do not respond within 4 hours, the problem will be reposted for our Premium Expert Team to answer, and you will not receive credit. Since whether you earn money or not is based on the quality of your advice, make sure you're giving the best assistance possible! Follow the advice here, to create great solutions. You can track your earnings via your Expert Ledger. There are many other ways to earn money on FixYa, and you can read about them here. Hey

It depends really. The techs that answer questions here are doing it on a volunteer basis when we answer non premium questions. Really there is no way to say how long a question may take to get answered. Theres no guarantee it will be at all. I've seen questions get posted and answered within 5 minutes, it ranges by the time of day, who is on answering questions, or even how tough of a question you asked. If you really have an important issue that you really need answered then premium questions would greatly increase the likelyhood of you getting a response in a timely fashion. In addition to that, you may get numerous responses if you got the premium question route. Otherwise, I'd say ask your question and give it a day or two and check back.
