On the split system 1. Can burnout from defect, lightening, etc .. 2. Only way ice will buildup back to outside unit is LOW LOAD.. either from dirty filter, dirty coil or fan blades caked up with dirt. 3.. Poor airflow will cause the poor cooling $ Outdoor unit most likely has a low pressure switch causing the outside unit to shutoff until pressure rises.. Has this helped ?

Older GE fridge model number TFX20JRXAAA. Why is it not cooling below 50 degrees?


Depending on refrigerator age it could possibly be 2 things if you have no ice buildup on evaporator coils in freezer. 1st-- the discharge tube on the compressor is the smaller of the tubes. It actually should be hot when working right. The other bigger tube is the suction line which is the return line from the freezer coils and should be slightly cool not cold enough to sweat. when working right. You may be low on freon which should never happen unless your tubing developed a small leak somewhere. Refrigerators don't need recharged like car units because everything is soldered shut not bolted together like cars. If he freon leaked out the leak would need to be found--repaired---and then recharged with the proper amount of freon. The other possibility with older refrigerators say 15 years or older is what is called a low capacity compressor. It runs, but the inside gets worn out and it doesn't pump the freon like it should. The end result is exactly what you describe but low freon does the same thing.

Check the air filter and if it is dirty, replace..
Turn equipment off and let the ice melt.
After ice melts, place a/c in cooling mode and set the thermostat to 3 degrees below room temp display.

The indoor unit fan should start blowing cold air immediately and then turn off once the room temp drops one degree below the cooling temp setting.
If the indoor unit does cycle off, check the outdoor unit and make sure it turns off at the same time.
If the outdoor unit continues to run and the indoor fan is not running, the indoor unit will ice up.
A defective compressor relay that is stuck in a closed position will cause icing of the indoor unit because it keeps the compressor running when it should turn off with the indoor fan.

Do you have an error code being displayed on the controller?
Is there an led light that is flashing on the indoor unit?

Another possibility causing the indoor unit to ice up is if the freon in the system starts to get low.
Make sure the ice has all melted for this next check.
Pretty easy to check without special tools.
If the air filter is clean and there is no dust/ dirt blocking the fins on the indoor unit, turn a/c back on to cool and check that the indoor unit fan comes on and is blowing air good.
Once everything seems to running good go to the outdoor unit.
There will be two lines with black rubber insulation covering them.
Peel back the insulation three inches on each line and observe the copper lines.
If either line starts to frost up the a/c system is most likely low on refrigerant.


Another cause of indoor unit icing could be that the aluminum fins behind the air filter are clogged with dust or other foreign material.
This would block the air that must be pulled in causing the indoor unit coil to become too cold due to lack of air flow and it will ice up.

Operating the cooling system when the outdoor temperature is below 60 degrees can cause the indoor unit to ice up also.

It sounds like it leaked again and there's not enough refrigerant in the unit to cool. That's generally is what causes the cooling coils to ice up. Get your serviceman back and see if he can replace the coils. Repairing them is not a good option.

My kenmore fefrigerator not cold anymore, what should I check first pls!


Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

First check the freezer compartment for signs of ice build up. If the unit is running and not cooling. If you note ice build up do the following.

1. Unplug the unit.
2. Remove the contents of the freezer compartment.
3. Place a fan blowing into the freezer compartment of about 2 hours. (Makes a water mess. Mop and rags required)
4. After 4 hours wipe the internal cabinet dry.
5. Plug in the unit and let run about 30 minutes.
6. Reload freeezer contents.

This is a manual defrosting procedure. It will only provide relief from the symptoms of no cooling for around 2 days. If the manual defrosting returns the unit back to normal temps then you will need to have the unit serviced and the automatic defrost circuit repaired.
The problem can be
1. Defrost control,
2. Defrost heater element,
3. Wiring, or
4. The defrost thermostat.
Any one of the 4 can cause the problem.

If the compressor is NOT running at all the problem can be
1. Defrost thermostat.
2. Defrost control
3. PTC start relay or the KliXon thermal overload (2 part Assy)
4. Run capaicitor
5. Compressor
6. Temp control.

You did not provide a model number in your post so all of the above are GENERIC terms. If you need specific information you will need to respond with your model number.

Why suction line would ice back


Good day,
Unusual question.
Lots of reasons. You didn't say if it was cooling or cycling off and on.
1. Evaporator fan motor in freezer compartment not running. Doesn't allow the refrigerant to boil off and returns as a liquid.
2. Evaporator coil badly frosted allowing no air flow thru it. Same as #1
3. Runs constantly (days). no demand on system, and once again will not boil off before leaving evaporator.
4. Overcharged. Floods back excess charge.
5. Heat exchanger came apart. The capillary tube is soldered to the suction line to transfer heat from the cap tube to the suction line. Necessary on a refrigerator. Common problem.

Have a reverse cycle split system LG aircon blowing warm air on cool or heat,have cleaned filters and turned power off for to reset ,both inside and compressor fan working


Hi, dealing with these ductless split systems on a daily basis, I can say you have checked some of the things I would have wanted you to check, which is good on you're part.Blowing Room Temp. air in both heating and cooling indicate that the compressor is not running even though the outdoor condenser fan is on.There are several things that could cause this. You have a compressor run capacitor that starts the compressor, but I am thinking on you're unit, it has a dual capacitor that runs the compressor and fan together. Fan is on, so I will rule this out.These units are notorious for leaking freon as the Liquid line and suction lines are not brazed, they are put together with connectors that tend to leak over time. If it is low enough on Refrigerant gas, the compressor will shut off and stay off on low pressure. This unit has a low pressure switch that has normally closed contacts, that opens and stops the compressor from any damage which in turn, you will have no cooling or heating.Do this for me, turn the unit on in cooling, lower T-stat way down so outdoor unit comes on. Go to the out door unit and where the elect. wiring and lines go into unit you will see to copper lines. The largest of the 2 lines is the low or suction line.Wrap you're hand around it and it should be nice and cold. If it is warm, just touch the smaller line, it should be rather warmer, almost hot.If both lines are of normal temp. you are either out of freon or the compressor isn't running.You can remove panel to get to it and put your hand on it to see if it is on. If the lines were of normal temp. and the compressor is not on, more than likely you have lost the charge.Look it over, the wiring to see if you see anything burned or connections burned off and so on. You can check the 3 wires going into the compressor by turning off the power at breaker and removing the cap covering wires just to make sure these wires are intact. sometimes one will get hot from power and burn off. If you see this problem, it would be something you could fix.If all looks good, go back to the copper lines and being this is a Heat-Pump, you should have 3 fittings where we install our gauges to check and fill systems with freon. Look for one that is on the unit itself and remove the plastic cap.Don't be alarmed if you do as nothing will come out.If you look inside the valve, and you see a Schrader core, you can depress it with a nail or something small, just enough to see if it has a lot of pressure in it.If very little or none, the system is out of freon. You will have to call a tech out to find leak and evacuate and re-charge system.I wanted to give you many things to check so you and I would know what the problem is, a process of elimination. If you have a lot of pressure, then more then likely you have a faulty compressor. If you feel that you would rather not check the electrical or depress the Schrader, I fully understand.You can at least check the temp. of the lines and listen to see if the compressor is running, and if it is with warm lines it is still low on freon.Please keep me informed, and again the long explanation was for you to understand more about you're system operation. 1. First check if your door rubbers seals properly. if not, try and adjust yor doors so that they seal properly.what happens sometimes is that moisture leaks into your fridge.
2. It is also possible that your unit is overgased. you can buy yourself a valve that can be screwed onto the suction pipe line to your compressor. at the back of your fridge you will find a condenser unit that is directly connected to your compressor. that is called the discharge line and you will notice that the discharge line is thinner than the suction line to your compressor. get yourself a set of fridge gauges that you will connect to your valve that you just connected to your suction line. check your psi reading of your suction line under normal running conditions. to get a compartment temperature of minus 18deg celcius your psi reading depending on gas your fridge is charged with should be more or less 4,5 psi. if you have ice build up at the back of your fridge on your suction line your unit is overgased. if your reading on your guage reads less than zero psi then your unit is undergassed. good luck.

Sanyo split high pressure side tube icing


ok, on these units, if by high side line you mean the small tube going from outside to inside, that tube is actually on the low side, the metering device is in the outdoor unit. If you shut the unit down, let everything thaw then restart and find that small tube is freezing up right at the outdoor unit right away, my guess is its low on charge. I see that you put some in, make sure it is the right knid of refrigerant. they do not hold alot. Where is your suction pressure running. If you put 2 to 3 pounds with no change, you may have overcharged but that is telling you that there is a restriction in the line inside the outdoor unit, probably the filter if it has one, or the metering device itself. Let me know what you find.
