Features of AVG Anti Virus

AVG Anti Virus is available free-of-charge to home users! AVG Free Edition is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only. AVG Anti-Virus is loaded with features, including new tools that improve security and usability. Continuing from last year is the gamer mode, which allows you to enjoy full-screen games (or movies, presentations, etc.) without interruptions or popup announcements, and still maintain security. Generally free antivirus software does not give full protection. Still AVG free version is best among free antivirus software.

AVG Anti-Virus even includes a PC system optimizer utility. The PC Analyzer scans your system and locates registry errors, junk files, disk errors and broken shortcuts. You can fix these issues, but note that you can only fix errors once for free. Subsequent use requires that you purchase AVG PC Tune-up.

Another great feature that only a few of the best antivirus software vendors have is internet link-scanning. Heeeelp, ok no sales pitch for me, i run a small home business and need to get up and running again...I received a pop-up yesterday saying I needed to fix a virus-threat and malware, I kept saying no and...

if you can...completely wipe out your hard drive and reinstall windows. if you need the stuff off of your hard drive...take it to a small local computer business and they will do that for you for cheap. sometimes you will save yourself a whole lot of time and heartache if you just completely reinstall windows and wieout your hard drive and write over it again. AVG or Avira is a free virus software program that has never allowed a virus on my computer.

if you ever get a message that ask you to run a virus scan without your initiating it then don't...there are so many of those damn scams. Good Luck.

Down loaded new nortonantivirus from tiscali seams to be slowing down lap top any sugestions

Unfortunately many antiviruses tend to slow down things: they have to check each file on execution.

Check that your antivirus isn't scanning your whole system just now. Many antiviruses will do that upon first installation, to be sure they're running on a clean system. If that's the case, wait for it to complete.

If this happens often, there's a "speed" setting - fast scan will make the computer slow, but slow scan or "idle scan" will load the system much less. Try those.

Otherwise, maybe another antivirus might work better. I've always found ESET's NOD32 very light-treading even on not-exactly-bleeding-edge computers. Another one is AVG, of which there's even a Personal Free edition.

Try to down load AVG virus program and it is

It's usually indicative that you either already have an antivirus program installed (anti virus software treats other anti virus software as a virus) or you have a virus. Here are several links. The first is for the free version of AVG 9.0
This link if for a free online anti virus program by Trend Micro Systems called Housecall
I'd recommend a full anti virus scan on Housecall. After which you could either choose to continue to check on a regular basis or for realtime protection, download and install AVG 9.0.
I hope this answers your question. All the Best!

Do I need a Norton-type security for my laptop, or is AVG sufficient ?

Hi,
AVG is more than sufficient for a home computer.
Norton takes quite a lot of system resources and slows computers down dramatically. AVG on the other hand uses 2/3rds less resources than Norton and is just as good.

Reagrds.

E machine t 2958 starts but will not run

Hi wt50, odds are there is a program in your system that for what ever reason is not loading correctly, hence you're mouse or windows is not functioning correctly. (When windows hour glass shows up that means a program & or files are loading).
I am betting you can still use you're keyboard to move around. Suggest you run windows system restore. To get around in windows using you're keyboard only. Open this link from Microsoft; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301583 Help with using the keyboard instead of the mouse while in windows XP, if needed. Windows system restore is located in, Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore. Take windows back to a time it was loading ok. You can also try pressing the F5 key every two seconds as your system starts up. This will prompt windows to load; Windows Advanced Option Menu. Once this opens, use you're up & down arrow keys to high-light, Last known good configuration (your most recent setting that worked). Than press the enter key. Tip: if you're current antivirus software came on a CD you might be able to boot to that CD & run a scan on you're boot files. If not you can always go to this link; http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe
This is free. Download AVG than run the software. As far as the AT&T window opening & showing nothing, that’s a call to AT&T but I suggest you try the above suggestions first. Make the call to AT&T if the support window continues to open. Chances are they'll want you to re-install the software. Lastly rule of thumb, if you installed some other software recently & afterwards you're system started to screw up, than try to uninstall that software through Add/Remove programs.

Good luck wt50!
There is always more than one way to fix windows.
