Question about Samsung RS2534 Side by Side Refrigerator

CherryWriter@earthlink.net There is a strange strong acidic, similar of blend of motor-oil/onion/orange, inside my fridge. I have cleaned/washed everything three times. I don't have aby onion or garlic or other products in my fridge. The odor is strong enough imperminates fruits, butter, ice cream, even covered containers. I removed every item inside both the fridge & freezer, washed every item, scrubbed all the walls shelves and bins inside and under everthing. There is nothing inside to explain the odor that has been here for four days. I'm goung nuts trying to get rid of the odor. I even place an open bowl of vinegar over night, didn't work, I tried 2 boxes of baking soda - didn''t work. The odor seems to be from the motor or something or the cooling system. HELP. I have a side by side Samsung fridge/freezer model # RS2530BWP. Many thanks for your suggestions! Mrs Hinkle

Heya,
I did samsung warranty for awhile and these fridges have a faulty defrost termination clixon. What happens is when you turn off the fridge it turns it off defrost. If you do get a tech out there are two parts you need to fix it. One is a yellow sensor cable and the other is a defrost termination wire that is black and red. These two parts i use to sell for $70aus when the fridges where out of warrenty.

I actually have one of these fridges now and work so if you have any other problems please let me know

The first thing to do is, give it a FULL DEFROST, the old fashioned way. set it for defrost or unplug it and melt all of the ice out of the air tunnels below and behind the freezer. In the refrigerator section, you will find a hole that you can stick your finger into, normally in the wall next to the freezer. This has the defrost timer in it. Give it a full turn CLOCKWISE to make sure the contacts aren't stuck. When you are sure all the ice is melted and the water has been dried up, power it back up. It will run properly if nothing actually went bad. The next step, if it doesn't work right, is to replace the thermostat.

you will need to use a blow dryer and defrost the back wall.Once that is defrosted then you will need to remove the back panel and defrost the evaporator coil.

There are several things that can go wrong the temp thermostat,defrost thermostat,defrost heater,or control board.you will also need to check the evap fan and make sure it is working.

Hello,
When the fridge side is getting too cold or icing up, this is because the control of the compressor has gone bad in some way...
There a few different things that could cause the unit to lose control over the temperature of the fridge side.
If your refrigerator has a damper door that opens and closes to allow cold air to move to the fridge side the damper linkage or the damper motor may have broken or gone bad.
The coils in your fridge may have frozen over and now the air does not move at all so then the ice builds up and can freeze parts of the fridge side.
The thermostat has gone bad and so now the compressor runs continually. This will not be noticed readily on the freezer side but will show up quickly on the fridge side.
Many newer model refrigerators use an electronic sensor or thermistor to read the temperature and supply the info for the circuit board and often a digital readout.
So, here is how I would go about troubleshooting this problem.
Check the coils for ice, defrost the coils with a heat gun or hairdryer, then check for the reason why they iced over. Defrost control or defrost timer bad? Evaporator fan bad?
Check the damper door to see if it is stuck in the open position. If it is then check the motor and the linkage.
Check to see if the refrigeration unit will shut down if the thermostat or digital setting is turned up to a higher temperature. If it continues to run then find the cause and fix it. It may be a bad thermostat, sensor, or control board.
Sometimes with a change is weather to a cooler climate this will be enough to also affect the inside temperatures. Make sure that a bit of adjustment in the thermostat or setting of the temperature will not solve your problem very simply.

It uses a defrost element, built into the evaporator to melt the ice once every 1 - 2 hours. I suspect one of the sensors are failing, or the defrost element is faulty or worse.

You can test the defrost element with a decent multimeter, make sure power is getting to it, in at least 1 to 11/2 hours. If no power ever reaches the element, even when the compressor shuts off, then more likely the problem is the PCB. If power does reach it, but it does not get warm, the defrost emelent needs replacing.

Testing sensors on Samsung models are nearly impossible, so I am not even going to advise it. The resistance readings never make sense.

So in a nutshell: 1) Faulty Defrost Element or 2) Faulty Sensors or 3) Faulty PCB.

There is a strange gaseous smell in the frige


The gas that runs your fridge does not smell. Take the drawers out and clean underneath them - you'll probably find that something spilled and went behind and under the drawers. Or maybe it is just spoiled food. There is also a massive possibility that it is the smell of onions. Bottom line, do a good cleanout of your fridge

What Not To Pair: Cheese Pairings to Avoid


(We) talk a lot about what makes a great pairing when it comes to cheese, wine, and food. And since cheese is so rarely-- really, too rarely, in our opinion-- enjoyed just entirely on its own, it's especially important to know what foods will heighten your experience of the cheeses you serve.

Equally vital is knowing what not to do. (Oranges and carrots, for example, are just a preview of two things that just won't make your cheese sing.) Here, some don'ts to keep in mind when putting together a cheese plate.

When pairing foods with cheese, your goal should be to highlight both elements equally. Ideally, go for flavors that will accentuate rather than overpower the cheese itself. Similarly, cheeses shouldn't overwhelm what you choose as accompaniments.
The exceptions to the rules below may be fresh cheeses, which act as excellent foils to stronger flavors. But generally speaking, the following things are examples of what to stay away from when constructing a cheese plate with a variety of different styles, ages, and flavors:

Spicy things: There may not be a worse way to kill the flavors of your cheese. While a searingly spicy hot pepper jelly is actually great with a cooling, sprightly puck of goat cheese (see above disclaimer regarding the fresh cheese exception), it wouldn't do anything for the subtle flavors of a semi-soft, natural rinded sheep milk cheese, for example. Veer from olive mixes speckled with dried red pepper flakes, really spicy pickled items, spicy meats, hot jellies, mustards, or chutneys, and even crackers with black peppercorns. While delicious, these accompaniments will linger on your palate and hinder your experience of the cheese in its natural state. Lightly spiced things can be great with cheese, liked sweet, spiced nuts and herbaceous olives. But beware of things that taste more of what was used for flavoring than of the food itself!

Garlic- or Onion-flavored Crackers and Bread: Unless you want to be left tasting the bits of dehydrated onion or garlic that so often sully the surface of breads and crackers, save these items for other moments. And beware of the "Everything" flavor, too, which may have lots of onion and garlic lurking within. Some cheeses, like stronger mountain cheeses and some funky natural rinded wheels, actually have subtle notes of spring garlic or onion. Breads and crackers infused with onion-y flavors can mar these compelling undertones, so beware.

Vegetables: Clearly this is a category that may be a bit too large to generalize, so to be more specific, stick with vegetables that have relatively mild flavors, like sliced fennel and endive spears. Slightly peppery greens like arugula or radicchio can be great compliments to cheese if you're thinking of making a cheese-laced salad. But on a cheese platter, stay away from the most vegetal of vegetables, like broccoli, carrots, green beans, celery, and cauliflower. While these all may make great additions to a crudite platter (and broccoli and cheddar soup is undeniably delicious), they seem straight-up strange to pair raw with nice cheeses.

Citrus or high-acid fruits: Orange segments, grapefruit, kiwi, and pineapple have their place, but not on a cheese plate. While so many different kinds of fruits go seamlessly with cheese-- like apples, pears, grapes, and figs, not to mention all of the dried fruit that compliments cheese so well-- those fruits that are higher in acid tend to turn cheese acrid. My mouth nearly cringes with the thought of the curdling effect these fruits would have on cheese!

Tannic Red Wines are similar to citrus in their ability to turn cheeses bitter. The lingering effect of tannin on cheese can be so negative, you may walk away with an inaccurate opinion of what you're tasting. You'll ruin not only your impression of the cheese, but of the wine, too!

You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products.
"Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.

Fridge smells


Are there any drip channels in the back or bottom of the interior of the unit that may be clogged? These channels collect condensate and feed them to a pan under most refrigerators. I assume you have removed bottom food storage drawers and cleaned inside. Also try open box of baking soda which absorbs odors.

A leak from the fridge


Without knowing a bit more about the black fluid it is hard to guess where it could come from - in a fridge there should be no black fluid and the only oils are mixed in with the refrigerant so the fridge will not be working if any noticeable amount is leaking out, as the gas will leak out as well. As you mentioned, the most likely liquid is water from inside the fridge or condensation from inside or outside that has bacteria growing causing the blackness. this sort of water may usually only be in the water tray at the back but there are many possibilities of it leaking out somewhere else - only way to check is to get the fridge running, up on four chairs or a VERY strong glass table so you can see where it is comning from. Another possibility is that there is some insect, plant or rodent factor - the moist warm space under a fridge is quite popular and they can produce their own liquids and also especially rodents cause unpredictable holes and damage all over the place. also can only be checked by looking very closely at the source of the liquid. The last possible cause i can think of is some sort of corrosion - i have not heard of this type of corrosion with a fridge, but it is quite common on steel ships - salty humidity and chemicals (cleaners/cargo etc) reacting strangely with the paint or steel are normally blamed - just think if you get too many strong cleaning products near the bottom of the fridge and look for general condition of the paint/metal underneath you should be able to see it easily if the black fluid was in any significant quantity - there would usually be a sort of rusty look to the fluid, but not always depending on the combination of chemicals present. Where you describe the fluid coming from, sounds like it could be from the door insulation - maybe leaking through the bottom hinge holes - check that nothing is leaking into the door from inside, although condensation can easily happen in the door body itself if the insulation has separated slightly from the "skin" of the door inside. Last thing to try is to investigate the fluid itself a bit more closely - get some on a piece of kitchen paper towel or a coffee filter and then wet the paper with water also just next to the fluid- the parts of the liquid should separate out a little as the water soaks through the paper and you may just see something that looks familiar. If you get no luck post back and try to describe exactly what the fluid does smell like, without trying to imagine smells like "oil" which means nothing as they are all different and in particular fridge lubricants are relatively odourless. think of things you actually know the smell of and try and describe it in those terms - if you feel brave then it may be worth tasting the liquid - just taste a tiny tiny bit on a cotton bud/Q-tip dabbed on a few different areas of your tongue and then wash your mouth out with mouthwash straight after instead of spitting or swallowing - I know it sounds dangerous and disgusting but it is the way that many professionals identify unknown substances as taste has a much more specific "database" in the brain than smell has. just be sensible.
