Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Hard Drive (120GB)

2 Answers

Recently bought a refurbished 360 elite. The system knows a hard drive is present, but it's listed as "unformatted," and won't let me use it to recover my gamer tag. Formatting it does absolutely nothing. I've already contacted my seller (off ebay), so I'm waiting on a response from them, but in the mean time, has anyone else had this problem before and was able to fix it?

To make the xbox360 hard drive 'formatted' to the console you need to follow these simple steps.
1, Go to the system settings on the dash board.
2, Select memory settings and highlight Xbox360 hard drive option, do not select, but press the yellow or the Y button.
3, From the menu that appears, select 'Format' and the hard drive will then be formatted to the console enabling you to use it as it was meant to be used.
Other than that, you will need a new hard drive as the one they have provided is faulty.
Lesson learnt for buying the cheaper 're-furbished' product. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Ok with my xbox 360 (elite), it at least takes several minutes just to load to the dashboard. (It loads faster without the hard drive.) So I go to my system and it doesnt read my hard drive it says...

Sorry to say it, but that's what a dead/failing hard drive will do. If you're out of warranty, you'll need to get a new one. To be sure, see if you can do anything with your drive on a friend's 360. It can't hurt the other system. :)

the problem may come from the hard drive which means that it may have a virus like a computer or that the hardrive may have a malfuntion and cant be able to read to the xbox 360 so it is considered to buy a new hardrive and recover your profile/ enter to get all the downloads that was on the last hard drive

I would suggest giving Microsoft a call and have them help you. If the hard drive is indeed faulty, they should be able to replace it for you at no charge.

you need to clear the cache. You can call microsoft at 1-800-4myxbox, and they will guide you through the process. It may take 10-15 minutes to do but you have probably spent more time than that being frustrated.

Thats because the elite will only recognize a 60gb or higher. Pretty much you are keeping your xbox from operating at it's full potential.

i suspect you bought the xbox 360 core version. this does not come with a hard drive and therefore you cannot play original games. since you have the 30 day warranty i'd recommend you buy either the premium (comes with 20 gb hard drive) or the elite (120 gb hard drive). or you can buy a hard drive seperately and install it, however it's very overpriced like all 360 accessories

hopefully that helps
