Kenmore side by side refrigerator model 106.5702 will not make ice.

My sister refrigerator side by side less than 2 years old will not make ice anymore. She said the bin/basket was full of ice so she turn off the switch on the right side wall. When she turn on again, it will not make ice anymore. It's been on for more than 2 days with no ice. There is no water on ice tray. Water dispenser is working. I've checked the light sensor and looks OK. If I turn it OFF, the LED is OFF. If I turn it ON and the receiver plastic flapper open, the LED blinks, if I push the plastic flapper close (no obstruction), the LED is steady ON. I've checked the emitter and receiver TB plug not loose and both look OK (electronic terminal board). The water line is not kinked. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick reply. No I did not test the water valve since there is water coming out on the front water dispenser. Is there a separate water for the ice maker beside the water dispenser?

  • sidring May 11, 2008

Thanks for the information. Is the water valve for ice maker easy to access and test?

  • sidring May 11, 2008

How can I test the water valve? Can I just pull the output plastic tube and see if water is coming out? Can I use a multimeter to check if the solenoid is bad?

Thank you very much, I'll try your suggestion and let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

Your ref has a double water valve

  • Anonymous May 11, 2008

behind your ref at the bottom

You just have to take a few 1/4 screws at the paper plate or metal and you gonna see the valve

  • Anonymous May 11, 2008

just pull out the tube or test with 110v to see if you get water at the ice maker. the 1/4 tube line going to the ice maker

2 year old Kenmore side by side refrigerator is too warm

the freezer feeds the refridgerator with cold air, when you open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you need to change the evap fan motor, next take out the second from bottom food bin and touch back wall,if you feel snow or ice you have a defrost problem, you'll have to take off back wall, advance the timer till it clicks into defrost and see if the heater comes on,if so you have a bad timer,if not read out the t-stat and the heater,if there are plug in wires on t-stat unplug them and bypass the t-stat by plugging t-stat wire to heater if heater comes on change t-stat,leave the heater on to help you defrost the ice off of evap coil and use hair dryer to melt ice, hope that helps

Kenmore side by side refrigerator wont make ice model 106.5682 604

You could either need a water valve or a new ice maker. How old is your icemaker? I'd look at the water valve first since it's less expensive. We have parts if you need to call us. We start answering our phones at seven am cst. Hope this helps! Ella :>)

Ice maker will not make ice

Water fill tube above I/M is probably frozen up. Remove I/M and see. If so, use spray bottle to melt out ice. Unplug and replug in ref when done to reset ice level sensor or it still won't work. If no ice blockage then I/M is bad and needs replacing.

Stopped cooling

Hello cpuklutz
Welcome

You said, Kenmore; 21 cu ft; 10-years old; just stopped cooling; wondering if it even makes any financial sense to get estimate to repair, or is 10 years about it's trouble free length of service

Here is an article that you may find useful and interesting related to your situation.
Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Thank You, HUUUM
