Acer Aspire 9300 Vista Lock Up Issues

Hi. I have an Acer 9300-3716. I have had problems with it since I got it. It often locks up, runs slow and just has poor performance problems in general. I decided to go ahead and reinstall the operating system. It came with Vista Home edition installed. I installed Vista Business edition. At first it seemed to work great. Then my boyfriend set up profiles for both of us and installed some programs like Avast and Firefox. Within a few days after that we started having problems with it locking up again. We'd get "Not Responding" on the programs that would be working. When this happens I'm unable to load task manager or restart the computer, and usually have to do a hard boot. When it is booting back up, I get a black screen with a red line down the middle it flickers several times for about 30 seconds, and then boots as normal. Anyone have any clue for me? Could it be a hardware issue?

Thanks in advance

Holly

Hey thanks a lot. I'm going to give those tips a try. I think I'm also going to get a cooler pad for it. This is my first lap top so I'm not really used to dealing with lap top issues. I've always had desktops. :) Thanks again.

Sounds like a over heating issue, try using caned air to blow and dust out of your fan area, then make sure when the system has ran for a while the fan does turn on (laptops to save on power don't run the fan constent only when the temp rises enough to need it. also make sure your not leaving the laptop run on blankets or pillows as they will block air flow through vents on the bottom or side of the laptop. Hard surface is best. if all else fails you can get a cooler pad to use with the laptop.

If you have any further questions please reply before marking not helpful. thanks

Acer Aspire 9300-3716 password

My advice to you is technical. You need to reset the CMOS on the motherboard internally. As for the password in vista unless you know it you will more than likely have to re-install vista or do a systme recovery by using the e-recovery partition that comes stock with ACER computers. I do not advise you to try resetting the cmos if your not technically capable

Acer Aspire 9300-3716 Hardware trouble after downgrading from Vista to XP.

You can download the drivers directly from Acer.

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?siteid=7293&areaid=7&website=AcerPanAm.com/us

Just choose "drivers and downloads"
Then "notebook"
Then "Aspire 9300"

On the right window, you will see available drivers. Once you highlight each one, you will see what operating system it is for in the "download details" window.
