I have a Taiwan evaporated cooler, 120 vac 60 Hz 85 w. Does this unit cost a lot of electricity to run, or is it fairly energy efficient

evaporative coolers use a principle of blowing air though a filter that is water moist
the air passing through the water uses a heat exchange process as the water boils off, the air is cooled and so you get cooler air
very efficient in places where the humidity is under 80% but over that the water doesn't evaporate all that readily and so the effectiveness is reduced
basically the hotter the day and the lower the humidity the more efficient they are.
Cheap --yes as it only runs a small motor for the fan and an even smaller motor for the water pump, but you will need a regular water supply some units have a small tank which needs regular filling and others can be connected to the home water supply
it is not an air conditioner , simply an air cooler.

HOMS Evaporative Air Cooler HW:777 Slow / Not Rotating Motor, What Could Be The Problem?

capacitor for run motor has gone most likely. on the motor you will find a black box with ether 2 black wires or one black and other white with something like cbb61 ac450. that has probably gone. they in most 2 phase motors and 3 phase motors like ceiling fans. dont cost a lot to replace just make sure it is the right uf rating can be 1 uf up but not down. so say yours is 1uf and you fing a 2uf it would be fine but a 4uf will make the motor slower.

Our Carrier evaporative coil is broken beyond repair due to copper too thin to hold the refrigerant. Our home and A/C is less than 4 years old and the AC repairman said that if we replace it with another...

If in fact the coil is less than five years old then the parts should be under warranty. Labor only charge. As for the tubing, all coils have very thin walled tubing as to transfer heat more effectively. Aspen coils did have defected coils which were manufactured for a number of brands at about the time you purchased your unit. The manufacture may step up and help if you contact them directly, customer support from Carrier. Estimated cost for labor depending where you live should be between $500 to $800 dollars depending on installation. It could be a little more if it is an attic installation.

How to refill home a/c in window with freon? Can I find a store to refill it in philadelphia?

If you dont know refrigeration better leave it to an expert. Lot of people dont like dealing with window ac because of the high cost of labor. Some tips. If you can remove it from the window to the outside and remove the case and panels on it. this will save you money. If you can clean the evaporator and condensor this will save you money. All he has to do is maybe add a tap valve and leak check and refill the ac, this will save you money. Look in the phone book for someone that does service. Hope this helps.

Do not know what he means by tubes,but there is a evaporator core in the dash in the blower box,and if it leaks,it will have this symptom,the cost can be as high as 500 dollars labor,depending on who replaces it.

Evaporator coil needs to be replace again. Installed w new manufactured home; 09/2005. Replaced 05/30/08. Needs to be replaced again 09/17/09. All due to leaks. Freon was added. Currently has small leak;...

the manufacture is only required to supply the part free of charge thru its warranty period. the installing company probably would only give a 1year labor warranty and honor the pparts thru the manufacture for 5 years but unless you paid additinal for an extended labor warranty i dont think you are going to have much luck. Make sure you change your air filters every 30 days a dirty filter is one of the biggest causes of evap coils prematurely leaking. Sorry wish i could be more help.

Ok , I will try to guide you as simple as I can :
1- Remove the Heater / Cooler unit this is how : * Disconnect Battery ground cable
* Recover AC gas or empty it in open space
* Drain radiator coolant only
* Remove instrument panel for access
* From under the hood disconnect AC pipes at the evaporator , by removing bolts , discarding O-Rings and make sure to install blanking plugs so that no dirt goes in.
* Disconnect heater hoses from heater matrix pipes , by releasing the spring band clips and make sure to blank the pipes
* From inside the car , remove driver footwell duct , by removing the screw and then removing the duct
* Remove upper steering column lower fixing , nuts and bolts
* Remove upper steering column upper fixings (Bolts) , and allow column to rest down o the floor
* Cut cable tie which secures console harness to LH blower duct
* Remove LH fan motor duct (screws)
* Remove passenger side footwell vent (nut)
* Cut cable tie securing console harness to RH blower duct.
* Remove RH fan motor duct (screws)
* Disconnect Heater/Cooler Connector
* Disconnect drain tubes from Heater/cooler assembly
* Disconnect A/CCM connectors
* Remove evaporator pipe support bracket fixing.
* Remove Heater/Cooler assembly fixing , by removing lower nut and upper nut
* Remove tape securing RH rear footwell intermediate duct joint. Remove duct to clear access
* Remove tape securing LH rear footwell duct
* Remove Heater/Cooler assembly from car.

2- Remove AC control module 3- Remove evaporator pipe seal plate 4- Disconnect heater tempreture sensor 5- Remove footwell servo motor from heater/cooler unit * Disconnect connector

* Remove motor complete with bracket
6- Disconnect evaporator sensor connector * Detach heater/cooler connector
* Detach evaporator sensor connector
* disconnect connector
7- By now you can see one upper and one lower case * Remove heater/coolent unit upper case from lower case
* Remove screw
* Remove 15 clips
* Remove upper case from lower
8- Remove evaporator from case * Remove sensor and clip

You are done , make sure to replace all seals that you see to make sure that every thing is ok and you do not have any leaks after installation.
Installation : Reverse order and after installing make sure to do a pressure test to make sure that there are no leaks
