Go to support.hp.com and look up your computer.
Download and install the Vista drivers.
If you don't see Vista drivers the computer won't run Vista. Go back to XP.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Vertical lines on HP TouchSmart IQ770

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. Vertical line on the screen was caused by a bad video card or cable. If the video card is embedded or built in on the motherboard of the computer. It means that the motherboard needs to be replaced and would be better for a technician to check it so that we can avoid more problems. If you can check the warranty of the computer so that you can send it for repair free of charge.
Thanks

My screen went haywire a few days ago and I cant see anything on it unless I go into safemode and even still then there's lines on the screen is my video card messed up?

Hello There and Welcome to Fixya!

Seems like you're having a bit of hardware situation on your display. My recommendation of course, is to reinstall or better yet, update your video driver so you don't have to go to safe mode to see your display.

If this does not resolve your problem and you still see lines on your screen, then you need to determine if it's really a hardware issue. Here's how :
  • Go to the BIOS screen - shutdown your PC and turn it back on, tapping on "DEL" key repeatedly until you see a screen that looks like this :

If you still see those lines running on your screen, then I would strongly suggest for you to take the monitor to the nearest authorized service center for it to be fixed. Otherwise, operating system reinstallation can get this resolved.

Hope this helps, Thank you for using FixYa.

Ok the computer is on,but the screen just says loading on the bar across the screen, but it never loads and just keeps saying loading

For this issue what you need do is to check first if you can reboot the computer in Safe Mode.
Here are the steps to go to Safe Mode:
1. While your computer is starting after you turn it on press F8 continously so it will override the Normal booting procedure.
2. Select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys then hit enter.

Now if the computer cannot be rebooted in Safe Mode you need to re-install your Operating System.

Vista installation problem.

Make sure that your CD/DVD drive is set as the first boot device in BIOS, then insert the Vista setup cd and reboot. Installation should now be automatic.
