Hello to fellow seamstress; from repair tech.

I went to this manual site, and found YOU can request a professional search for a users manual or a REPAIR manual (for a sm chg)

With purchasing a NEW unit, didn't they give you a warranty or training or a manual? Why haven't THEY helped you?

I found a download for $8. for the Users manual.

I think my good unit is a Brother, it has been a while since i sewed -- medical prob -- but, when i set my tension, I would start by putting the bobbin all the wa tight then loosen it until it just flows out at a pull but NOT a tug...hard to desc on paper.
THEN on to upper tension....thread machine -- not thru needle, just above, As you pull thread thru upper area, again, tension should give just a tiny tension to you, not a tug.
This should give you a start. Then, with light wt fab, ck to see if LOOSE loop is on top or on bottom, and adj from there...a teeny tiny bit at a time.
Do NOT Rush this...take your time.

(If this has been helpful, please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA)

I'm having a problem threading my brother sewing machine model XL 3010

1. Clean up any loose thread in the bobbin area.
2. Pull on the bobbin thread while it is out. It should give a tension that is equal to the top tension of three. You'll have to approximate. Adjust the screw tension on the bobbin. It is the screw nearest to the thread exit hole on the side.
3. Put it back in.
4. Now, the top tension should be at about three. If it still allows a little wad on the bottom of the fabric you can adjust the top tension by tightening a small amount and monitor each time you adjust. The wad should go away.

The top and bottom threads won't connect, to make a stitch.

Replace the needle with a brand new "Schmetz" needle..

If it still won't pick up the bottom thread, take it in for service.

When moving top tension thread not tightening.

Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through at the needle.

Re-set the tension to mid-range.

If this does not work, then tension control needs a new spring or the control needs to be replaced.

Sewing machine XL 5500 settings

Your bobbin is probably too loose. When you set a new bobbin, stop every now and then and try with your fingers nail if it's nice and tight enough. Not extremely tight, but tight, not loose and moves easily when you set your finger between the threads.

With most fabrics (99%) the plate is fine at the the top position, just with very thick and "fragile" (satins etc) you might need to adjust it.

Settings: Tightest tension for the thinnest materials, more loose for the thicker ones, better have a test piece, it rarely goes under 5 anyway.

Thread tension for Brother XL 2230.

If you have pattern dials set correctly then I might guess that one or more sets may have been missed when the thread was being set up in the machine. most of these models show either arrows or numbers for each or way the thread needs to be routed.

Brother xl 3750 threating

take out the bobbin (thread holder) beneath the sewing area. Clean that cavity with a brush or cotton/soft cloth. Refill the bobbin with new thread and put it back in the cavity. I hope it will solve your problem.

Try a new needle, making sure it is put in properly. A bent needle can break thread. Make sure top tension is set properly.
