1 Answer

Im tryig to piggyback my wrt54g router to another part of the house. I have a cable coming from my linksys e1000 n router which is my main router. When i plug the cable into the 54g i can access the router page but not the internet. I have selected gateway for the 54g and turned off the dhcp server part but still no luck. What is the IP address of the E1000 router ?
If the IP address of E1000 router is 192.168.1.1, Then change the IP address of WRT54G router to 192.168.1.2. Connect the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port of E1000 router to the Ethernet port of WRT54G router ( port 1 of E1000 to port 1 of WRT54g). Disable the DHCP server.

You can do it in a different way also.
If the IP address of E1000 is 192.168.1.1. then change the IP address of the WRT54g to 192.168.2.1. Do not disable the DHCP server of the WRT54G. Connect the E1000 to the Internet port of WRT54G.

When I try and install my E1000 linksys router it causes the phone line (dial tone) to disappear. Also it doesn't have PPPOA as a protocol option. Also the linksys setup software says that it is n

Don't you require an RJ-11 for a phone line, cause I don't see one on this model? In any case, the ATM protocol should be handled by the ISP modem, and the router should just pick up the established network over Ethernet.

Connect the ISP modem to main uplink port. Then connect pc to any other port. Done. Some models come with a setup disc, but not absolutely required.

For beginners-how do i connect the linksys e1000 to my hughes net modem? or do I hook the cable directly to my tower so i can use my laptop in another room

The modem will plug into the router, it should come with a cable for this, there will be 5 ports on the router, one will be labeled as internet most likely , this is the one you use, the other 4 will be numbered and you can use any of these to connect your tower. the wireless should work automaticly for your laptop, but if you want to make it a secure network, please contact me directly and ill walk you through it.
hope this was helpful

Intermittent/non-existant connection with LinkSys WRT54G router

I would get a Range Expander... it sounds like you are having problems recieving a constant signal. When you do get the range expander plug the Range Expander halfway between you upstairs computers and your downstairs where your router is at. I hope this helps!!
