Question about Minolta Maxxum 5 / Dynax 5 35mm SLR Camera

Minolta maxxum 5 jammed film-chamber lock

I was at DisneyWorld taking pics with my Minolta Maxxum 5...which I have loved from the day I bought it. The package of 35mm film I bought in an Orlando store must have been crushed somehow, because the cannisters were a bit squashed/dented. I wasn't sure about using it...I thought maybe the pics wouldn't be perfect, but film inside the park is so expensive that I gave it a try. The first two dented film cannisters loaded, shot, and rewound just fine. After pic #24 on the third roll, the camera went into auto-rewind but then seemed to shut down on me. I thought it was the batteries, so we found a film shop there and bought new ones....but the same thing happened. I have come to the conclusion that the cannister is so dented, the film will not rewind into it...it's basically jammed inside the camera. Since the camera has the nifty film-chamber lock feature, we could not open it inside a black bag to manually remove the film. I have taken the camera to two camera stores (including the place where I bought it a few years back) and no one can seem to figure out what to do....all they can tell me is that Minolta no longer exists and so there's no way to find out how to fix this...though I can send it to Sony for $150.00 and MAYBE they can figure out how to fix it. I can't imagine the manufacturer creating a lock system that didn't have a "bypass" feature built into it. So I'm hoping one of your gurus can walk me through a "fix" of my problem. I don't want to ruin either my camera or, if possible, my film.

the same thing just happened to me and i googled to try and find an answer since the manual doesn't help and yours was the first hit. my camera was in a camera bag but it fell on the ground out of the back of an SUV. i managed to take the rest of the roll of film fine but now i can't get it open. i have tried to hit the manual rewind button several times to see if that will open it but the lock is stuck on lock. SOMEONE HELP! all i can say is if i don't find an answer i will, as i always do, take it to ritz camera. just a suggestion if you have one in your area because they have never steered me wrong!

My Minolta Vectis S1 has domne a similar thing. But I have had a film sitting inside the camera for several years, and only recently replaced the batteries, shot off the remaining 4 exposures. The film automatically rewound. But the film chamber door won't open when I push the film chmber open button. presumbly the long amount of time I have had this film in the camera has done something. Yes, i need a manual over-ride to get my film back..and have it processed. It has some old exposures i'd like to see.

I just found it after looking at the manual again. it didn't work for me but maybe it will work for you.
go to http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/manuals/film-cameras/film_af_slr/dynax_5/dynax_5_inst_e.pdf
and page 61 (actually page 121 of the manual but page 61 if you type in the page at the bottom of acrobat reader).
when i tried this it made the noise that it wanted to unlock but it didn't.
good luck!

ok update. i don't read things through all the time...it gets me in trouble. in the link above it gives one solution...that one is the one that didn't work. however the second solution worked for me which i didn't see the first time i read it. i was just so mad that the first one didn't work.

i got mine to open by using a opened up paper clip. it didn't fix the door lock since i had to do it again to reopen it but yours should be fine since the film appeared to be your problem.

Where do you insert a sim card into a minolta maxxum 5 camera

Cameras, especially film cameras, do not use "SIM" cards. There were some models of Minolta film cameras that used exposure cards for auto-settings but only cellular phones and devices with cellular interfaces (iPads) use SIM cards. Here's a copy of the Maxxum 5 manual if that helps.

I just bought a Minolta maxxum QTsi from a lady and it had no manual with it, I can't figure out how to load the film. Can you take me step by step on how to load the film and how the camera works when...

Hi, I've found the instruction manual online for you, http://www.mediacollege.com/equipment/manual/konica-minolta/camera/maxxum-qtsi.pdf that way you have it for future reference. For loading film you open up the back of the camera and make sure that the end of the roll of film is aligned with a red mark and then you close the back. For taking pictures you press the shutter button half way in order for it to focus, when the image you want is framed you press the shutter button the entire way and it'll take the photo.

I dont know what batteries to use and film to use on my minolta maxxum 70.

The Maxxum 70 uses two 3V CR2 lithium batteries.

The Maxxum 70 can use almost any 35mm film. Color prints, color slides, black-and-white prints. Do NOT use Polaroid instant film or infrared film.

If you need a manual, you can download one at

My Minolta Maxxum 700si is blinking HELP on the screen

That same problem popped up on mine about three months ago after I put new film in it. I was only able to get a few shots out of it before HELP appeared in the window. Then everything locked up. I was able to reset the HELP by taking out the battery momentarily, but the problem reappeared. Also, after that, my pictures were mostly blank.
I opened up the back and found that one of the four thin metal shutter "flaps" had popped out and was jammed out of place. I probably snagged it with my fingernail when I loaded the film. I was able to tuck it back in place and now the HELP problem is gone.
Haven't taken any pics yet, but I'm hopeful. BTW, it also fixed my built-in flash, which had stopped working, also.

What is the "light" or just red color at the bottom near the "open" the back button of my Minolta Maxxum 5 camera?

Elizabeth,

What you are describing is the film chamber lock indicator. Basically, once a film is loaded, you cannot accidentally (or intentionally!) open the camera until the film has been fully rewound. This is to prevent you ruining a film. The red indicator is just to let you know it's locked.

More details are on page 23 of the camera's manual. If you haven't got one, you can download it from here.
