Question about Dryers

2 Answers

I have an Amana "Commercial Quality Electric Dryer" and it runs, but won't heat. Can you help me to troubleshoot and repair? If a little history helps, I bought the dryer, used, two days ago. It ran one load of clothes fine and felt very hot. However, there has been no heat since. I have checked the breaker switches. I have also checked to make sure there are no ventilation issues. I'm ready to take the dryer apart and go to work. Please let me know what I should do / check. Thanks so very much for your help!

Where is the "moister sensor" and how would I test it? Isn't there also a fuse somewhere that could be blown?

  • brooke_franc Sep 03, 2010

Sorry, but when I paid for this solution I was under the impression I would get a thorough, step by step solution.

Can someone explain to me what I need to take apart and which parts I need to test, to see what is not functioning?

There is absolutely no lint anywhere in the dryer or ducting. Does anyone have another solution and/or can you tell me how to locate and test the potentially bad part(s)?

Hi,
Somewhere in that dryer, is a manual reset high limit switch. It would be in the wiring going to the heating element.... This rest is tripped and needs to be reset. However there probably is another problem also. The thermostat did not seem to cut out so therefore the high limit did. Replace the thermostat for the dryer also while you have it torn apart.

Clean the exhaust vents ductwork first or disconnect the venting and try the unit again o see if heat comes about. lint filled inside the vent exhaust tubing will cause the moister sensor to shut down the heat

Gas dryer won't heat

Sounds like the solenoid is not opening and letting gas flow. There should be a small plastic plug on the front of the dryer near the bottom. Remove this and start the dryer, look in, if you do not see a flame, this could very well be the challenge. Applianceparts.com sells most parts needed for basic repairs. If you are not comfortable working on gas lines, have a repair person check this for you. Hope this helps.
