Hello to fellow seamstress; from a repair tech.

here is a download for the users manual here.

have you re-installed the software for your unit? one of my machines is a Singer.

When was the last time you cleaned the unit? get out the vacuum w/the pointy nozzle. clean it frequently. esp the underside.

I want to do a button hole on my singer sewing machine model 7422 i've got the manual and i've followed what it say's but it only beeps when i pressed the pedal to start sewing i followed the instruction...

I do not have a fancy Brother machine. From what I understand, you just need to do a zig-zag stitch around the "rectangle" that will become the button hole.
You could forego whatever instructions they provide and just set your stitch width as appropriate and then move the stitch type to a thin (close together stitching) zig-zag, just shy of "satin stitch" (which is just sewing back and forth all in the same place, and therefore--useful for embroidery).
Sometimes easy does it can be the ONLY way to get things done. :) Sorry I don't know more about your specific issue but maybe the old school way will help.

Bernina buttonhole 730

Use your ruler and measure your button. Then transfer those measurements to your garment.
Use chalk to mark the center cut line of your button hole. Mark the end or stop point of the button hole per the measurement.
Practice on a scrap of the same fabric before you begin on your garment.
Set your machine the satin stitch zig zag at a fairly narrow width.
Begin satin on one side of the center line of the mark. Slowly stitch down that side until you get to the end. STOP. Widen your satin stitch to the max. sew about 1/8" and stop with the needle down on the opposite side to your first line of stitching. Turn the fabric, narrow the stitch to match original satin stitch. Sew slowly down the other side of the center mark. STOP, lengthen the stitch, sew 1/8" then do a couple back stitches.

That's one way. Another older way is to sew 2 or tree straight stitch lines around the center line. Remove then use a hand rendered button hole stitch after you cut the hole.

Machine will not complete a buttonhole, keeps showing error code 6L. No error code listed in manual. Machine will only do first half of buttonhole and then shows code and stops.

I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

Button Hole Beeping on 7462

Yes frustrating issue this one. I discovered that you need to pull down the retractable button hole guide found behind the needle threader (not visible when you are sitting at the machine).

Hope this helps, happy sewing!!!

pull the button hole lever all the way down, then push it all the way back up. Select your pattern and it should work.
