I purchased a ge profile glass cooktop. The unit has the "Bridge" element. I would like to purchase a grill/gridle. The only one that I have found is Cast Iron. Can cast iron be used on this cooktop. I want to lift the cook top on GE range jbp82shss so that I can clean out all the dust. can I do this

Yes. Disconnect power to range. Open oven door and remove hex head screws at front edge of cooktop from the bottom side. Lift up front of cooktop. Burner units can then be removed from the underside of the cooktop. Be careful not to damage the gray insulating material around the burner elements if you remove the elements from the cooktop glass.

Can I cook on a cracked cooktop

The glass cook tops are made of tempered glass. Even small crack can eventually lead to shattering if the glass if heated in a condition where it has a weakness. In addition, depending on the severity of the crack, any liquids that boil over while cooking can end up directly on the heating elements. This could lead to catastrophic failure of the elements and/or an electrical shock hazard. It is strongly recommended that the cooktop is replaced as soon as possible.

Repacement parts can generally be purchased on line at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites include helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifuing any parts you may need.

I found the following part number(s) : WB62T10475, WB62T10476, WB62T10477

The correct part number and price will depend on your COMPLETE MODEL NUMBER and COLOR of your range.

Broken Glass on Cooktop

Ouch. The glass top does have to be replaced but I just ran the partial model number on your range and if you're at the comp. I hope you are sitting down. Replacing it not bad. Purchasing tho is rediculous. Retail suggested price just for the top is 600.00. Rediculous pricing but GE is like that sometimes. Sorry but repairing the glass is not possible and getting it from a glass shop isn't either. Sorry for the not so good news. Rick

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change out a GE Profile Spectra cooktop? Also, where can I get instructions to do so? Thanks!

The following link explains how to replace a glass cooktop:

This is not a difficult repair, but it can be tedious. If you have the quick disconnect plug that all the surface elements plug into, it makes it much easier as you can unplug the cooktop and move the entire assembly to another area to work on. Otherwise, you will have to prop the top up and carefully remove all the elements, leaving them wired together.

NOTE: Make sure the range is UNPLUGGED prior to servicing. Dangerous voltage is still present even with the range turned off.

If you have questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this helpful.

How to replace radiant heat element

HI, on most models, there are three to four screws that hold the top to the cabinet. Look at the flange above the door to locate them. If this is the right nodel, the top should just raise up after the screws are removed. Be very careful not to twist or drop the top after it has been raised.
I hope this helps

I have GE Profile glass cooktop. After cleaning

you can safely use a razor scraper such as you would use to scrape paint. It will not harm the surface and then you can polish it with the cleaner.

Temporary solution to turn off the indicator lamp - put a wet rag with an ice pack on top on the middle section of the cooktop.
