Hi,

The paper jam you had probably lifted the long, thin, plastic encoder strip in the pathway out of its slot, giving the false indication of a paper jam. In order to put it back in its place, please carry out the following steps:

Before you proceed you can actually see if you have this fault before completely disassembling your printer

1) Disengage the blue “hood” catch and let the scanner assembly open completely

Get a torch and look into the long opening the print head travels up & down.  You will see a hard metal edge all along the length of this hole and if you look further back you will see a thin plastic length which the head also travels along. What can happen is this gets twisted at the print head end, basically dislodged from the print head.  You should be able to see this. And this is what you are trying to fix

2) Lift the cover and remove the two plastic panels covering wires. (one left and one right)

Mark down the position of cables, then remove them, and remove the now-freed top scanner section entirely.  They plugs are almost coded – all the blue wires go in the blue plug. All the red wires go in the red plug and the two white plugs are 3 and 4 pins so only have one home. You will also have to unscrew the earth wire

3)  remove the three screws holding the control panel down and remove the control panel. There are three cables attached to the control panel but there positions are obvious.

4) Remove the phone then the phone cradle – there is a wee lever at the bottom and then the cradle slides backwards

5) Remove the screws from the top plastic shell. There's two in the back and four in the front. There's also two plastic tabs in the front that must be bent aside before you can remove the top shell.

Note – if you are careful (I was not) you can manipulate the cmos battery so it stays plugged in and you do not loose your settings.  Else unplug it.  There is also a red and black cable you need to unplug to remove the tray. Its position is obvious as well.

6) Gently put the encoder strip back in its plastic guide, and check if you are able to get your printer to work all right thereafter.

If you are not comfortable carrying out the steps, I would strongly suggest you to have it repaired by your local Brother service center, without causing further complications.

SOURCE: message unable to print 50

Machine Error 50 either means that there is a loose object inside the machine (usually piece of paper), or that there is a mechanical error which would need you to have the machine sent to service.

Brother 130c print unable 50

Solution #1 is absolutely spot-on from adnanbhatti, copy the link into your browser to be able to see the photos of the printer and how to slide the print head:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/000500/000065/faq000565_013.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp130c_all&Cat=11

When I slid the print head over as specified, I found a little crumpled paper fragment soaked with ink. Pulled it out.... I turned on the printer, it ran a cleaning cycle automatically, and started printing just fine!

Unable to clean message

When trying to use your Brother machine you get the message "Unable to _____". The blank may be the word Change, Print, Scan or Clean and these words may vary from model to model.
This message is a general message and will appear for different reasons. It often indicates a paper jam or a mechanical issue. Complete the following to determine the possible issue.

1.
Check for foreign objects, such as a clip or ripped paper, inside the machine.
Open the scanner cover by pulling up on the lower right corner of the cover. Look inside the machine and remove any foreign objects. If you see jammed paper or another item inside this area, gently pull it out and then close the scanner cover securely.

2. If the error continues to appear, the machine may have a mechanical problem.
If the error message continues to appear, the machine will need to be reset. Resetting the machine will erase all faxes in memory and the Fax Journal Report. However, there is a way to transfer faxes in memory and the Fax Journal Report to another fax machine to print them out. Do the following to transfer the data and reset the machine...

Thanks.

Print Unable 50 Brother MFC5460 CN

So dont let me be a withness of murderer:
There is no paper sicking within the machine! The jam had lifted the encoder strip out of the ph. After you have fixed it simppy stick some very thin scotch tape onto the ph cover to avoid further liftings (that will happen quite often...)

same issue: (change the viwing size of your browser to enlage the pics)

the encoder strip which gives the printhead the position is out of place (error 50). You have to open the printer and reinsert the strip:

Stick a 1.5 inch tape onto the printhead cover where the strip runs thru. This will prevent this accident in future!
