Brother HL 1440 Laser Printer

Brother HL-4040CN won't read or show new refilled...

posted by Sunny10 on May 11, 2008

Please help. My HL-4040CN is only 3 weeks old. Two days ago I refilled my yellow cartridge, it works and the print quality is as good. Today I refilled my magenta cartridge and to my disappointment the LCD don't show or read the magenta refilled cartridge, and the printer won't print.

Thanks for your reply, mine is a laser colored printer and it's a toner cartridge. Yes I have the correct toner cartridge and have cleaned the corona wire and the drum according to the manual. Still not being read by the LCD monitor. Thanks again.

As I stated earlier I refilled the magenta toner cartridge meaning it's the correct cartridge. I cleaned too the corona wires and drums according to the manual and did the re-installing, still LCD won't read the newly refilled magenta toner cartridge. I am still hoping though that someone can give me a solution so I will be able to save a lot through refilling. Thanks for trying.

Obviously, you would want to make sure you have the correct cartridge for your printer model. If you have the correct cartridge, remove the magenta cartridge and make sure that some tape was not left behind on the contacts. Clean the copper contacts and inside the the ink carriage with an alcohol dampened towel. Re-install the cartridge (making sure it is pressed in all the way). Turn the printer off for 30 seconds and turn it back on. If this does not solve the problem, I would try a new ink cartridge, and if that fails I would return the printer.

Q: Brother printer toner refill.?

A: yes and no. it is easy to fill the toner but if it is the original toner which came with the printer, they deliberately leave out a $4 starter gear which is needed to regulate the amount of charge going to the drum. Without this gear, the copies will come out too light and be nearly useless. I threw out two of these printers until I came across Northbay Toner who explained this to me and provided what I needed. I now have two Brother lasers working well on $5 refills. For more info, see http://ccs-digital.com/northbay.html
